45 version (UA X1330-Y) listed in the db as "45 length" has a vocal overdub at 1:04 and 1:06 that does not appear on the original LP version (UA 974) listed in the db as "LP length"... i think there should be a "45 version" and "LP version" distinction between the two...

jrjr:
I don't have a commercial 45 copy of the Dirt Band's "American Dream", but it sounds like you've made a very astute catch! Could you describe these vocal overdubs that are exclusive to the 45? |

linda ronstadt, who does background vocals, provides an "ooh" and an "ahh" between the line "your voice it tickles down..." i re-timed the 45, and it's more like at :59 and 1:00..

Then the "45 length" version on Rock On 1979 is the correct 45 version (the overdubs are there, although they're a little soft). It's not the LP version faded early.

my commercial 45 issued as united artist 1330 lists a run
time of 3:30 but actually only runs 3:28.....if you fade the below cd version for 0:10 from 3:18 to 3:28 you'll effectively re-create the true vinyl 45 version....this vinyl 45 run time info s/b added to the db (S) (3:32) &nb sp; Rhino 71890 Radio Daze: Pop Hits Of The 80's Volume One (45 version) |

I feel that there are two different pressings of "An American Dream" vinyl LP. The actual running time is (3:33), while the listed time is "3:53" on the LP record label (United Artists UA-LA974-H U (US pressing) : runout groove matrix number "uA-LA-974-1-RE-1 x). My LP contains the Linda's voice "ooh" and "ahh" at 1:01. My commercial 45 (My 45's actual running time is (3:29)) is an early fade of the LP.
However, my Japan LP contains the (3:48) version, which doesn't have Linda's voice "ooh" and "ahh". It seems that the Japan LP is identical to jrjr's LP. As the result, there are 2 different pressings in "An American Dream" vinyl LP. --abagon |
