I'm looking to make the 45 speed of "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over The World)". Does anyone have a 45 I could use as a reference? My Pop Annual states a run time of 2:53. If I use the version on "Yesterday Once More" and speed it up to 2:53, do I have the 45?

Any help much appreciated...don't know why I'm all of a sudden in to Carpenters 45 versions...oh! maybe because they are not that easy to come by!

Don't know about the 45 speed, but everyone might like to know about a new import compilation Collector's Choice Music is selling, with the original LP mixes of all the songs, not the late '80s remixes. It's been issued "with Richard Carpenter's blessing," they say.

I'm sure you can get it elsewhere on the Net, but that's where I first heard about it.

It's called Carpenters Ultimate Collection, a 3-disc set. This is it:

But it's $10 cheaper on CD Universe.

Yes, there are no other differences between the 45 and the LP version other than the speed. Just speed up the LP version by approximately 2.25% and you have it.

Great find, Brian! With the ridiculous number of Carpenters best-of packages that have flooded the market over the years, it's about time one finally comes out containing every Top 40 hit in their original mixes! I have long been frustrated over how Richard Carpenter constantly messes with the songs by remixing them, re-recording instruments, or dubbing in additional instrumentation. He also has a highly annoying tendency to fade and segue songs into each other, rather than keeping them separate and distinct.

That said, do any of the tracks on the Carpenters' Ultimate import compilation track into one another? I would love to finally have the original mix of "Superstar" on CD without it seguing or tracking into another song on the disc.

many of the Carpenters singles in their original mixes can be found on the remastered releases of their original LPs. "Superstar" on "Carpenters" is one of them.

"Ticket To Ride" is in its 1969 mix on "Offering/Ticket To Ride", however its the LP version (not the single).

And thanks Roscoe for the info on "There's A Kind Of Hush".

Yes, I ended up purchasing all the "Remastered Classics" albums a few years ago just to obtain the original mixes. It's good to know there's now a less expensive option to get the hits in their original mixes.

Unfortunately, a few 45 mixes have still not shown up on CD, specifically "Please Mr. Postman" and "Calling Occupants".

Please Mr. Postman has a unique 45 mix? I am not aware, neither is Pat as there's no mention of the existing versions being LP mix.

The 45 is not radically different (I don't think there's any different instrumentation). But the balance of instruments and vocals is audibly different on the 45 version than the LP. Since the 45 mix does not involve any differences in vocals or instrumentation, it probably does not qualify for a unique version designation under Pat's criteria.
