I've been reading the comments here about the newer stereo mixes and also
looking at the various database entries, and I'd like to know people's opinions of the best stereo versions of these 3 songs, and what CDs they're on. By best, I guess I'd say "most natural": Good Vibrations Barbara Ann I Get Around |

I prefer the DES on Eric Records Hard To Find Jukebox Classics 1963-64 -29 Amazing Stereo Hits for I Get Around. For Barbara Ann, the stereo release of Beach Boys Party! and for Good Vibrations the stereo on Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys (Disc 3). Edited by PopArchivist |

Favorite two expressions to live by on this board: "You can't download vinyl" and "Not everything is available on CD."

Richie, is the version of I Get Around on HTF Jukebox Classics the same as
one of these: "VBO Beach Boys: Sounds of Summer" (Expanded 3 CD) - 2021 stereo mix - vocals sound pretty centered/mono, but the drums (particularly the snare & claps) are panned to the right "All Summer Long (mono & stereo)" - harmonies are wide stereo but the drums are pretty centered/mono and and much lower (or barely heard) compared to the other mix. The snare is quite buried (but claps are clear). It's like - one is great if you want wide/stereo vocals (but not drums) and other other is really good if you want stereo drums but no stereo vocals. Maybe having both in stereo is limited/impossible due to the amount of multi tracks on the master recording. But maybe HTF CD has wide stereo for both vocals and drums - with well-done DES, I suppose that's a possibility. (BTW, I did just order Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys (3 CD set) because you're right - "Good Vibrations" sounds really good there. I checked on Spotify.) |

I can't find 'Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys' on Spotify. I own 'Good Vibrations: Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys' but it's mono on my set. Can anyone clarify or help? Andy |

What I bought is
Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys[Expanded Edition 3 CD] Here's a link: https://www.amazon.com/Sounds-Summer-Very-Beach- Expanded/dp/B09XGKHPVC/ref=sr_1_1? crid=381HAC713KZFX&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.yhvWsd99- fwIheC9NR5GOw.p9G35CKswfBw6FSB0VgqCYJscqkVCVIdaaPTNiiIW30&di b_tag=se&keywords=Sounds+Of+Summer%3A+The+Very+Best+Of+The+B each+Boys%5BExpanded+Edition+3+CD%5D&qid=1709364253&s=music& sprefix=sounds+of+summer+the+very+best+of+the+beach+boys+exp ande d+edition+3+cd+%2Cpopular%2C150&sr=1-1 I think the confusion came in - because though I checked out the above album on Spotify before buying it (that's where the good Good Vibrations is) - I was reading Richie's post/recommendation, which said: <for Good Vibrations the stereo on Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys (Disc 3).> Because both were 3 CD sets, I made a mistake in thinking this collection (the one Richie bought) is what I bought. I know that what I bought was originally released as just a 1-disc collection. This expanded edition has the same 1st CD (but with more stereo mixes) plus more 2 CDs. If the CD you guys have of Thirty Years Of The Beach Boys has Good Vibrations, maybe Richie can offer some clarity. Richie - Was there first a 1-CD version of this, and then the 3 CD set that you have (with the song in stereo)? That would be kind of odd if 2 different comps (that were both 1 CD) were both expanded later to 3 CDs and replaced "Good Vibrations" with a stereo version for their expanded editions. But stranger things have happened ... Edited by EdisonLite |
