My mission is now about 80% complete and my long time friends on this forum are well aware of how this has been literally an herculean, years-long quest for me (and largely explains my sometimes lengthy absences from the message board recently).

I've also been replacing scratched and damaged CD jewel cases in the process, in addition to making a careful inventory of all remaining CDs on my "Want List". Now that so many titles are going out of print, I almost feel like I'm racing against time to complete my ultimate music CD library!

Meanwhile, I've been taking copious notes along the way involving database-relevant information, which I plan to gradually post over the coming weeks and months. Believe me, there are still many, many items left to be discussed and questions to be answered, so have no fear... We aren't going to run out of things to talk about here anytime soon! ;-)

I was 10. It was the summer of 1979.
I totally rocked at Deer Mountain Day Camp's carrier-
current station, WDMC, in Rockland County, New York.

They had two Technics turntables (not 1200s but they had
the strobe lights), and a silver Numark DJ mixer (with a
talkover switch that abruptly dropped the music level).
I don't remember what mikes they used.

There was a very modest piles of LPs in the "studio"
(just a cabin). I remember ELO's "Out Of The Blue", but
not much else. No 45s. Certainly no promo stuff. They
probably belonged to one of the counselors.

When the end of summer rolled around and the counselors
gave us kids little certificates in our areas of
excellence, mine was in the field of "Radio". In
hindsight, not surprising. But I now have written proof
that I've been on the air in five decades!

About three years ago, I got to visit Deer Mountain Day
Camp in the off-season. Their radio cabin is still
there! Through the window, I could see a mike, two or
three CDs players, and a cheapie DJ mixer. Let's hope
that they're continuing to inspire kids, 35 years later.

The young campers will end up with a radio station of their own to discover the joys of a medium most of them probably aren't very familiar with. I'll end up with 8,247,612 mosquito bites. Per hour. It's been a very wet spring in this neck of the woods, so the all-mosquitoes, all-the-time format should be a major hit.

Unfortunately, the happy campers won't be cueing up any records. Though most of the cabins are brand-spanking new and quite spacious, the station is being set up in a long-unused 1930s-vintage cabin with a funhouse floor. Picture the Titanic's sloping decks five minutes before it went under. The next phase involves teaching the camp counselors how to run the board (an Arrakis ARC-10; pretty nice for a camp.) After that, it's up to the campers to decide which version of "Hello Mudduh, Hello Fadduh" to put in heavy rotation. :)

All is known. :)

Actually, I've been working my way through 1994. Most of
my tracks are from promo-only compilations like Hot Hits,
Spotlight On Hits, Promo Only, Hitmakers, or the TM
Century library. Most of those are digital clones of the
promo CD singles, which is good enough for me. RPM's Top
Hits USA discs used an analog intermediate step, until
about 1998, and the pre-1998 discs don't sound all that
great.

Bottom line: I found that I'm doing essentially no disc-
to-disc comparisons, and essentially no recreations of
edits. So not much to post about my end.

I'll visit the late '70s once I finish off the '90s.
