The stereo LP has "You can do me wrong", and the opening bars have a loud shaker + quiet crash cymbal on every beat, instead of loud cymbal and no shaker.

My understanding is that the mono LP has the original single version with "do me wrong", loud cymbal, no shaker.

I don't have any of the original-era records to verify.

Was the "Do me wrong", the 45, on the mono vinyl 'Otis
Blue' LP and the "You can do me wrong" on the stereo
version of the vinyl 'Otis Blue' LP?

Wow! Happy to wake up this morning to all this! thanks, guys.

I support these conclusions. Indeed, YouTube can be great for helping us
get to the bottom of these anomalies by having actual 45s playing! I would
also conclude that the "you can do me wrong, honey" version is the stereo
LP version.

I found two 45s with that "second" label on discogs, one is the 45 you
mention above with "Pain In My Heart" as the b-side

In-My-Heart-). Discogs dates this as 1968, but I can't seem to find other
45s with that label design to compare. It's also showing (undated) with the
original b-side "Ole Man Trouble"

More data points...

The stereo version ("you can do me wrong, honey, if you want it" at 0:33; first YouTube link above) is on the 1987 3-CD box set The Otis Redding Story. The liner notes are hard to read from the Discogs scan, but I think they say "An earlier mono version was released as a single August 5, 1965".

The first YouTube link ("you can do me wrong, honey, if you want it" at 0:33) is for a 1968 rerelease of the 45 (Volt OS 13097), with "Pain In My Heart" as the B-side. The surface ticks and pops in the video are in mono, so we can't tell from the video if this 1968 45 is in stereo or mono.

The second YouTube link ("do me wrong, honey, if you want to" at 0:33) is for the 1965 release of the 45 (Volt 128), with "Ole Man Trouble" as the B-side.

I'm tentatively proposing:

The common-on-CD mono version ("do me wrong, honey, if you want to" at 0:33) is the hit 45 version from 1965.

The stereo version ("you can do me wrong, honey, if you want it" at 0:33) was not the hit version, and was on the 1968 rerelease of the 45. Unsure if the 1968 45 was in stereo or mono. One more data point...

I have mono versions on some common CDs (the Atlantic Rhythm And Blues 1947-1974 box sets from 1985 and 1991, the Complete Stax-Volt Singles 1959-1968 box from 1991, Rhino's Very Best Of from 1992, and Rhino's cheapie '60s Sixties Rock Classics Vol. 1 from 1994). These mono versions are all the "do me wrong, honey, if you want to" at 0:33 (second YouTube link above).

I have stereo versions on two CDs (Warner Special Products' Otis Redding collection Ultimate from 1986, and JCI's Dance Sixties from 1988). Both of these are the "you can do me wrong, honey, if you want it" at 0:33 (first YouTube link above).

Following up on this (8 years later...), seems only ONE cd has this 2:17
version, your "Otis Blue/Otis Redding Sings Soul (collector's edition)".
Strange, if this is the "authentic" mono Volt 45 but all other CDs have the
2:06 version. Pop Annual uses the 2:06 timing.



Todd, I think you may have err'd when you indicated that it's the 2:06
version that is the "Mono Mix Of Stereo Album Version". According to
discogs, the CD back insert shows this as track 1-14 the "2:17" version.



I think that track 1-02 on that CD is "a" mono 45 and mono LP version,
while track 2-02 is the stereo LP version and track 1-14 is the stereo LP
version in mono running longer.



So, what remains is does ANYONE have a 2:17 45 and if so, what version is
it? Perhaps this 2nd 45 is simply the stereo LP version (in a mono mix)?
