Bumping this thread up. I'm amazed so many people thought this was a splice. That's just Benjamin doing a trill on the word "you". He sang it the same way live, just not as strongly as he did it in the studio.

Really? Even factoring the speed bump at 1:06? Holy crap...lol. Now, did you grow up with that song on the radio in 1972 or 1973? I only ask because you may have heard that version more often and become used to it. Whereas, I was only two or three when it charted as a single.

Ever the contrarian, but I've always preferred the edit.
To my ears the "I know, nobody knows" verse sounds tacked
on, much like the bridge on "Crimson & Clover".

Thanks for the confirmation, guys! I have a copy of the music video on a DVD and I watched it last night and sure enough, there's the "splice" (or whatever it is). If you guys couldn't hear it too, then I probably would've ended up in the sanitarium depicted in the video! Boy, that's some impressive ears Paul to zero in on that.

And yeah, it almost sounds like there is a splice on that
exact beat. Interesting.
Could be a hundred reasons... but it is an elaborate mix,
i could see them piecing together 2 mixdowns they liked.
Just one theory.

I also hear it on "Drive" right where you say Paul, but
always thought that was just a part of Benjamin Orr's
distinctive vocal. I don't hear the thump on "I Think I
