There has been so much data added and modified since this website was created that readers who must rely on print for whatever reason can only refer to the now very outdated 10th edition. I can understand and appreciate the costs involved with one more book printing, but I think it would be very valuable for folks who travel quite a bit and don't always have access to a computer. Not to mention, what about those unfortunate Top 40 afficienados out there still living in the Dark Ages who don't own a computer?

That's why I think one last printout would be the best option. Or buying a CDROM is good, too. Less printing costs for Pat, and we'd have a physical, tangible product. I voiced my opinion about this a while back and I am glad to see others agree.

First off, I just want to say that I think Pat has done an excellent job with the database.

My biggest use for the book is as a source when I am DJing at a gig. When carrying over 1000 CDs, it is very hard to remember what songs are on what CD. So I use the book to help me find the songs that I am looking for.

I would love one last hard copy that would include all the updates since the last issue because there have been so many. Like Edisonlite said, It doesnt have to be anything fancy, just one last reource for those who like hard copies.

One other suggestion I had in the past was making a CD-ROM of the database that way it can be accessible without being connected to the internet. This would be extremely useful to me as well as others.

Any thoughts?

    Author: EdisonLite
Subject: 688
Posted: 31 January 2006 at 1:53am

Pat, I'd really like to strongly suggest you do one more edition of your book in some form of hard copy (11th edition) -- the reason being -- the 10th edition came out right around the time this website began and there has been SO MUCH MORE documentation added to the database since then, I'd hate to see it NOT be preserved in print if anyone wants to reference the info years or even decades from now.

If there's ever a point when an individual does not continue their yearly subscription, they'd have no permanent record of the documentation that exists in the database -- and so many more single versions and dj edits have been uncovered since the last printing, it would be nice to have such a permanent record to refer to years later. (And I'd guess that probably 99% of all single versions, promo versions, oddities, etc. of songs from the '60s to '90s have been reported, especially with all the input during this past year, which would make one last printing much more valuable than the last edition.)

I suppose the biggest issue is the cost factor for printing a hardcover book that's thicker than the past ones, so I have this as an alternate suggestion -- why not do a low-cost, spiral-bound notebook type of printing -- nothing too fancy but something affordable for you to make, which would cost less than a hardcover book. And the important thing is that all this great and valuable (and recent) information would be in there. I don't think any of us would really care if it came in a spiral-bound notebook . (I bought some old Radio & Records books with chart info that came that way.)

I'm writing this publicly because I'd also like to get the opinions of others who participate on this board. Do you feel there would be a lot of benefit to have a permanent copy (for life) that contains all the latest data uncovered and reported here in the last year?
