When the use of whale oil was outlawed the existing tapes were reused because the lubrication lasted much longer than synthetic formula.<br />The thought was that no one would care about mono when stereo masters existed. The UK may have copy masters still extant. A&M Records was Sussex Records licensee in England and in Germany. Bill Withers masters are an exception to this rule, he got them when the label folded and he took them to Columbia when he changed labels. ]]>

It's mastered very nicely on this disc.  If I'm not mistaken, many of the master tapes on the Sussex label are either missing or destroyed.<span style="font-size:10px"><br /><br />Edited by Todd Ireland</span>]]>
