I was told some years ago that many of the mono master tapes were bulk erased and reused for new recordings because they were lubricated with whale oil. When the use of whale oil was outlawed the existing tapes were reused because the lubrication lasted much longer than synthetic formula.
The thought was that no one would care about mono when stereo masters existed. I just listened to the copy on this disc, and it is taken directly from the Rhino version with a few exceptions:

- They have done a significant boost to the bass and treble and added a little compression.
- They have replaced the first 1.1 seconds with a new transfer, presumably to hide the "thump" on the Rhino version.
- They have tacked on an earlier chorus at 2:33 during the fadeout, which is why the song runs longer than on other copies.

Indeed many Sussex masters are missing. The UK may have copy masters still extant. A&M Records was Sussex Records licensee in England and in Germany. For the benefit of those like myself who strive for pinpoint accuracy in obtaining as close to the correct 45, LP, and DJ lengths as possible in CD quality, I routinely research and post the actual 45 run time whenever database CD entries for a particular song have times ranging by :05 or greater.

By the way, did the Hard To Find 45's On CD Vol. 11: Sugar Pop Classics CD use a tape source for Gallery's "Nice to Be with You"? It's mastered very nicely on this disc. If I'm not mistaken, many of the master tapes on the Sussex label are either missing or destroyed.

The 45 (and I'm pretty certain, LP) ran 2:36. All the entries in the database are essentially 2:36, except for the 2 re-recordings at 2:47, and this one:

Commercial 45 copies of Gallery's "Nice to Be with You" are in mono and have an actual run time of 2:36. (Thanks once again to Jim for providing the timing info. The printed label time is 2:37.)
