There's nothing in the middle.

A different stereo mix appears on the Original Golden Instrumental Hits (WB WS1725) LP. That one reverses the channels and has similar added reverb, but it decays into the center. Still, that vinyl version has a far better sound than the earlier Warwick LP.

I don't think I have Wheels on a CD for comparison.

GM

    Author: Bill Cahill
Subject: 6277
Posted: 28 May 2011 at 8:02pm

My original Warwick Records album is entitled "Pick a Hit" featuring "Wheels" by the String-A-Longs. My copy of the album is mono and does not feature the added reverb heard on Rhino Rock Instrumental Classics Volume 2. So it matches the single. But the record jacket features a lot of ads for Warwick Records "3 Dimensional Stereo" releases, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a stereo release of this song by Warwick with the extra reverb to add some extra dimension to the song. So the verson on CD could be the "stereo lp version featuring extra reverb".

I don't know what LP this song originally appeared on so I can't say if this is a 45/LP difference. But it may be worth looking into since the difference between the 45 and the above CD is quite audible.
