At every radio station that I programmed, I cranked the ending up either on the cart or into the computer. I'm pretty sure iHeartRadio plays it at full volume until the end as the file boosted the level. (I used to re-do that national library all the time, if it was hissy, i used noise reduction). I have GoldDisc 903, and while the cold ending is audible it's at the end of a fade. Certainly not full volume by any stretch of the imagination.

I can't say for certain whether that cold ending was around in 1985, I'm sure the station I was at played whatever was on the 45 (all music was on cart). I was a a Hot AC station in the early 90s, and DO recall the cold ending, though it may very well have been from GD 903 (music was on carts there too). YES!!!!! By God, that's what I've heard and that's what I'm looking for! Clean, no hint of processing or goosing.

Yes, this is exactly what I'd expect the CD version to sound like through on-air processing without any "help" at the end.

Both the classic hits stations in NYC and Dallas are owned by Audacy. So, Aaron would be correct in saying the full volume song to the end might be in the company's central music library.

Funny. Earlier today after reading through this thread I was actually planning to return home from work and post a reply about how the right amount of processing makes some slow fadeouts seem non-existent and I was going to reference and link the VWestlife Amigo video.

Here is "Glory Days", as played from a 320 kbps MP3 rip of the "Born in the USA" CD album, through my CRL Amigo AM broadcast audio processor and C-Quam AM Stereo transmitter, and received on a Denon TU-680NAB tuner. This is actual over-the-air reception, hence the little bit of crackle at the very end:

Even with the CRL processor set to its factory-recommended settings, which are fairly moderate compared to what major-market stations are using today, the audio level remains consistent until the "Let's go!" shout and laughter, and then quickly drops off, although the "woo" and drum roll are still definitely audible.

I think both of you may be right. The CD version has the laughter at 4:07 where the audio has dropped to about -18dB. It's definitely into the fade by this point, but the volume is still very audible. This can technically be considered a "cold" ending, even though there's more audio that follows.

By 4:08, the volume starts dropping drastically. At 4:10, there's a "wooo" and drum roll. The final note hits at 4:12 and -30dB, which is where the song truly ends cold. This is the cold ending I've heard on my local CBS classic hits station, and when I've heard it there's not even a hint that the song has started to fade out.
