The 2-track promo CD single for "High Enough" is Warner Bros. Records PRO-CD-4416 (released 1990):

1. "Single Version" - printed 4:17
2. "Album Version" - printed 4:45

I don't have the promo CD single, but I have enough info to give some mastering details.

Single version (4:16)

The following all use the same analog transfer, which is likely track 1 from the promo CD single:

• Hitmakers Vol. 41 (August 24, 1990)
• TuneUp Next40 #29
• Razor & Tie's 2-CD Living In The 90s (1995) - omits the opening breath; avoid
• Razor & Tie's 2-CD Monster Ballads (1999) - digitally identical to Living In The 90s and therefore also omits opening breath; avoid
• Rhino's Billboard Top Hits 1991 (2000)
• Time-Life's Sounds Of The Nineties Vol. 2 1991 (2001) - digitally exactly 2 dB quieter than Billboard Top Hits 1991

All of the above sound just fine. If you need to pick one, avoid the Razor & Tie discs because they omit the opening breath.

TM Century's track no. 0005129 omits the opening breath (bad, although preferable for radio airplay), truncates the long fade, and may possibly have added noise reduction. Avoid.

Album version (4:44)

The following all use the same analog transfer, which is almost certainly the full-length Damn Yankees CD and/or track 2 from the promo CD single:

• Warner Special Products' 2-CD Rock This Way (1995)
• Time-Life's Guitar Rock Vol. 25 The '90s (1996)
• Time-Life's Guitar Rock Vol. 27 Power Ballads (1999)
• Realm's 3-CD Pedal To The Metal (2002) - digitally exactly 1 dB louder than Guitar Rock Vol. 25 The '90s
• TM Century's track no. 00005939 - no added noise reduction, no early truncation of fade

All of the above sound pretty much the same, so whichever disc you have the album version on will work just fine.

Indeed. For a number of years, I thought the same thing
about "High Enough". Then, I compared them side by side,
only to realize that the "Single Version" is a different

That's kind of like Donna Summer's "Love To Love You Baby". I think the correct 45 version has her breathing before she starts singing, but most CD's with that
version cut it off.

I never noticed the mix differences between the Album and Single Versions of "High Enough" either. Listening to them now, it sounds like there's more echo on the
Album Version. The vocals on the Single Version sound more upfront. I also noticed that the guitar section is edited on the Single Version.

Hey Rich,

You just answered my question (with that YouTube link).
Since the 45 has the "breath", then I know that it was
not exclusive to the Billboard Top Hits 1991 CD. I was
just surprised at how many CDs do not have that
"breath", making me question if the "breath" was
actually on the single.
