I always heard the 45 version in my area. I believe the album edit is on the commercial maxi-single, and one of the promos (there were three) has the same (or very similar) tracks as the commercial maxi-single. The only copy of this I have is on TM-Century HitDisc 967, and it has a listed time of 5:04.

I don't remember hearing it much on the radio, but this was a period I didn't listen to much CHR.

Since Prince has been a topic the last week or so, I've seen details of an 'Album Edit' for "7" that is listed as 4:23.
