Billboard considered the cassette single to be the "single" version from 1990-1998 so it looks like there might be a discrepency as to which version received the most airplay and which version is the true 45 version.

The LP version is labeled "Radio Mix" and most likely matches your vinyl 45. It starts with percussion.

The music video contained a version that started with just keyboards, with the drums kicking in around 0:37. I presume this is the "Strip To The Bone Radio Edit" from the CD single.

I agree that the "hit" version was the "Strip To The Bone Radio Edit." Author: crapfromthepast
Subject: 3084
Posted: 04 February 2008 at 8:42pm

I just found the CD single for cheap, so I'll answer my own question.

The CD single for "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" is Mercury 868 209-2, and has 8 tracks on it:

Strip To The Bone Radio Edit (printed 3:42, actual 3:44)

Basement Boy "Strip To The Bone" Mix (printed 7:26, actual 7:29)

Red Bone Club Mix (printed 7:08, actual 7:07)

Hump Instrumental Mix (printed 4:53, actual 4:50)

"Give It Up" Vocal Mix (printed 8:07, actual 8:07)

Give It Up Bonus Beats (printed 2:43, actual 2:43)

Original Demo Mix (printed 7:00, actual 7:09)

Acapella (printed 2:37, actual 2:39)

The "Strip To The Bone Radio Edit" (track 1) is also available on the 2-CD set Mega Dance Party '92 (Columbia Germany 471345 2, 1992), where it's labelled "Strip To The Bone Mix".

The "Radio Mix" from the 45 and the common US compilation CDs is nowhere to be found on the CD single. To my ears, I think track 1 from the CD single was the hit that got all the airplay, but I'm only about 80% sure...

The UK single is yet another version, similar-sounding to the "Strip To The Bone" Mix, but with the song structure arranged differently. It has a longer intro and a more conventional fade, rather than an instrumental breakdown at the end. This version appears on

Now 1991 (Virgin EMI PolyGram UK, 1993; runs 3:41)

The Hits Album 15 (Song BMG, 1991; runs 3:40)

The Greatest Hits Of Dance (Telstar UK 1992; runs 3:38)

It runs between 3:38 and 3:42 on a few UK compilations I have. The drums kick in around 0:40, which is very different from the US version.

Does anyone have the promo CD single for this song? After all these years, I can't remember what the "hit" version was.
