Perhaps this is a regional thing because here near Oklahoma City I only heard The Weeknd solo version on the radio (and I've heard it A LOT on KMGL-FM
which is adult contemporary... perhaps KJYO-FM played the remix?).

I don't listen to a lot of modern Top 40 stations,
preferring HAC as it's more in line with my personal taste.
So, I can't answer about which version was played on Top 40
radio. But on my HAC station, it was always the solo

The annual from Whitburn has this as the solo version from The Weeknd but radio pretty much played the hell out of the Ariana Grande version remix if I recall.

I remember Save Your Tears charted years before solo. I'm pretty sure the only reason it propelled up the charts was because of attaching Ariana Grande to it.
