My good friend Jim reports the actual and printed commercial 45 run time of Grand Funk's "The Loco-Motion" is 2:45. I'm passing along this info because database CD appearances of this song without additional studio talk run 2:40-2:46.

I've been trying to confirm something about this song for a while now, and was hoping someone here come help me.
I swear I remember Casey Kasem telling a story on AT40 about the distorted guitar solo. He said it was a result of a tape accident in the studio, where the deck "ate" the tape and after saving and playing it back, the band decided to leave it that way. I've looked online over and over, and can find nothing to verify my memory on this.
Anyone here ever heard this? Or is my memory just flat out wrong?

I just listened to every intro of "The Loco-Motion" on AT40 and there was never any mention of a tape accident in the studio.

Oh, well. Guess I'm remembering it wrong. Thanks, Paul.

Paul beat me to it!
Cool story, but sadly not for "The Loco-Motion".

Maybe it was Dick Clark or Shadoe Stevens?

Honestly, I'm questioning the memory at this point. For one thing, it wouldn't have been during Loco-Motion's chart run, as I didn't have AT40 on a local station until around late 1976. So, if it was on the show, it would have had to be played as an extra.
That being said, I might be mistaking hearing it myself with being told by someone else that they heard it. So, unreliable at best. With the amount of collective knowledge available here, I'm willing to accept that, if no one else remembers it, it didn't happen.

I ran a search on every AT40 from 1970-88 (the Casey shows) and the only other time Grand Funk's version of "The Loco-Motion" was played was during the show's "review of all the number one hits of the 70s" on the show for June 2, 1979. And no story there either.

I don't believe either had syndicated countdown shows in 1974 though, Casey had that pretty much all to himself at the time.
