I see on Discogs there was a 7" promo of a radio edit for Peter Gabriel's "Red Rain." Anyone know if it can be extracted from the full-length version?
I believe all stock copies were the full-length version. |

I just found a dub of the promo 45 on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uqa5IV9129Y |

Thanks, John.
This one seems to be a toughie, though. The first edit (which comes in at about (12.5)) sounds like there may be a crossfade there, which is a little out of my league. It also appears that the promo is sped up a bit from the full version. Anyone want to take a gander at this? |

Maybe it's my imagination, but it sounds like the video
quits before the song is over. |

The fade is a little abrupt, but I don't think it's inaccurate (if that makes any sense).

Bumping this thread to keep info about Red Rain versions in one place.
Red Rain on the 2002 reissue of So was edited slightly. The opening cymbal tap was truncated on the 1986 CD; we only hear its latter half. On the 2002 release, this tap was digitally repaired by replacing it and its trailing echo with a copy of the 2nd tap and corresponding echo. No other differences. For the 2012 So reissue CD+DVD box (a non-US release), they replaced the album version with a remix. It's the same as the 1986 CD until 0:26, when it cuts into a remix with the bass guitar panned right instead of centered, and with slight differences in percussion, such as the ping-pong panned bell-like sound being muted at 0:34, 0:38 and 0:43. At 3:25, the bass guitar panning is especially noticeable. At 3:28, a layer of open hi-hats are on top of the closed ones. It stays a remix thereafter, although the differences are subtle. The fadeout lasts 2 seconds longer. I haven't fully checked to see if this mix has appeared elsewhere. |
