Congratulations to Paul for uncovering the story behind the song, in
addition to the song itself. Great to hear it on your show, Ron. I didn't get to listen to the whole show yet, but what I heard I enjoyed a lot. You actually opened and closed the show with 2 of my all-time favorite songs, "Don't You Write Her" and "Too Late", so I was probably just as excited to listen to those songs as I was "Ready 'N' Steady". Great work and much appreciated, Jon O. |

For anyone who wants to hear this entire tune all the way to the fade plus three more tracks by D.A. and the Dukes then you have to listen to Ron's May 19th show with special guest Paul Haney. They even had co-writer Jim Franks call in to chat with them. Pretty cool stuff.

Thanks, Santi! Jim was a great sport, especially considering the little technical problems we had getting him on the air. It's always a treat to "talk shop" with Ron. We even delved into the "Roxy Roller" saga. Here's the link: https://archive.org/details/cftp-2017-05-19 |

'Tunnel Power' theory. Another Canadian group, Red Rider, had a song out called 'Power" at the time, on the album the song was segued in to a short instrumental intro called 'Light At The End Of The Tunnel' This is in the same vain as 'Foreplay/Long Time' by Boston, and 'Threshold/Jet Airliner' by Steve Miller.
The music video of the Red Rider song was 'Light At The End Of The Tunnel/Power'. Or 'Tunnel/Power' for short. That was the way album radio played it. Why I don't know 100%, its too much of a coincidence, that this was out at this exact time. Rule #39 Gibbs says, there's no such thing as coincidence, I hope I explained this correctly.

That certainly seems plausible, although the music video I remember was “Light In The Tunnel/Human Race”. I don’t remember “Power”, but now I see that on the album, it did come between the other two songs. According to Wikipedia, “Power” did chart on the Mainstream Rock chart. “Human Race” did as well, which was of course was played with “…Tunnel”. So yeah, it sounds like a good theory.

One problem with that theory is that BOTH "Power" by Red Rider (at #24) and "Tunnel Power" by Triumph (at #44) debuted on the chart the same week (1/29/83). And to make matters even more complicated, "A World Of Fantasy" by Triumph (which is an actual song) ALSO debuted that same week at #20! |

In the past I speculated that this was just another (lesser known) track on Triumph’s just released album “Never Surrender” but then none of the songs have Tunnel or Power in their name or lyrics. BB did have the correct label for Triumph and had the song on for two weeks so I’m thinking not a one time error. Vaguely remember somewhere it was stated that this song was a bonus track only found on the cassette release of the album, but that was awhile back.
There was one week on the Best Sellers Chart in the 1940s where only 9 songs appeared. This chart always had 10 positions. The reason for this is that for one position BB used the song title from one position and the artist from the next position. This combined listing reduced the chart by one position. BB never mentioned this error in their magazine, but it’s not that challenging to figure it out. Tunnel Power still a mystery.
