This information is fascinating. Aaron, thanks for posting the original rap that was stolen for that song. That's unbelievable - but I guess they weren't above stealing for the parts of other records too, right? And the Hard Core Remix is really odd to not have any of Martha's vocals until the fade. Wow.

I know I'm joining the party a little late here, but for what it's worth I've never once heard the single version (a.k.a. "Radio Mix") of "Strike It Up" on the radio. As a matter of fact, I remember being bewildered the first time I'd ever heard the single version because it was missing the familiar aforementioned pulsating "synthe-sax" intro with the "Yeah!" and "Dance! Dance! Dance! Dance!" chants. (In my opinion, this is what truly makes the song!) I remember Armed Forces Radio playing what sounded like an edit of the LP version, though I don't readily recall which set of rap verses were featured.

Radio Edit.

There's a music video on YouTube posted within the past few months which has a different edit of the "Original Remix" than what's on the US promo CD: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lv6ypA3EXGw

This one has a long intro and the "hit" rap verse, yet it only runs about 3:23. Could this be what some stations played?

Just today, I ordered a copy of the German CD single, which has a 3:30 Radio Edit as the lead track. Perhaps this import CD has the version that matches the YouTube video. I'll post my findings when it arrives.

Well, to my surprise and disappointment, the Radio Edit on the German CD single contains an edit of the LP version (not the correct rap).

I agree the 3:06 never got played in New York City. The Original Remix Radio Edit 3:31 and the chants are the reason why it was a top 10 hit as well as the intro. I am always amazed when the CD single version never matches the one radio played (Same situation with Back To Life (However Do You Want It) where the 3:30 single pales in comparison to the 3:48 mix that everyone knows and loves. Radio playing 30 seconds of acapella? Makes sense they took the 3:48.)

What version would this be? Sounds like an edit of the Dance Mix.

The version with the original rap appeared on a US promo single CD of the
song. It's track 3 and was done by a guy named Oscar Pabon. Since they didn't
get permission to use his rap that they stole, they replaced it with a rapper
names Stepz and that's what appears on the majority of the mixes.

That's the version I've been trying to track down on CD since 2012! I suppose that could be considered the video edit.

The Original Remix Radio Edit from the promo CD is the same mix, but it's edited differently. The main difference is that that "yeah" chant starts right away, whereas the video doesn't have any vocals until 0:26. There are also some slight editing differences toward the end, too.
