I much prefer the rap section lyrics and performance of the version posted by AaronsAmazing above. I hated the versions with “Cast your doubts about house music…”.

Yeah -- I'm not wild about it cutting back to the 'dance! dance! dance!' buildup so early in the song, but someone thought it was a good idea.

As an aside, are these official lyrics you got from somewhere? I only heard the video edit. That is the "hit version" as far as I know. Anything else on the promo CD might have gotten limited airplay. A similar situation a few years later happened for DJ Mike's What's Up where the promo CD did not have the "hit version" either.

I never heard on radio any of the edits on the promo CD. This track's situation is a bit of a mess - I can definitely see import CDs being played on US radio. I just don't understand why there'd be not one, but two promo CDs issued and most people weren't hearing any of the tracks from each one - unless most radio stations had their hands on import CDs that were released weeks, if not months, prior.

I'll go with the Original Remix Radio Edit, since it has a lot of what you guys recall hearing on the radio. The LP version is quite long, and I can imagine creating the edits from memory wouldn't be an easy task, nor would it be 100% that they're all correct.

Actually, one thing I can't say for sure is whether I heard the entire album version or an unofficial edit. I think it would often end on the 'dance, dance, dance, dance' chant, which could mean they just ducked out at 3:50.

On the European CD single, there's a "Radio Edit" by Los Angeles-based engineer Josh Schneider, and it cuts down the album version to about 3:31 and ends with the chant, but cutting off the last 'dance'. I checked old episodes of Casey's Top 40.

The first few weeks of the chart run used the Original Remix Radio Edit.
The last few weeks used an edit of the DJ Lelewel remix that wasn't the official DJ Lelewel Mix Edit (which was also the UK 45 version). It may have been an in-house edit.

As mentioned upthread already, the Radio Mix (edit of DJ Lelewel Remix), despite being the official single version, was not the U.S. radio hit, as far as any of us remember.

My experience is the same as aaronk's. In Columbus & Dayton, Ohio, I'm certain I heard the album version at the time. I was always shocked that the phrase "acid house" was on mainstream radio.
