Okay, just what exactly is the 45 version of this song? Is it just the LP Version with the spoken intro edited out?

I know a couple of their other hits were remixed for the single...

Well, and my question in addition is what exactly did I hear on the radio back in the day? I recall the cassette singles being different from the radio mixes, and maybe them all being different from the CD. Can somebody sum this up? I'll also look in the archives...

The 45 is an edit of the LP version from the first pressing of the album. The single version has the spoken intro edited out, and an additional instrumental vamp before the first verse. The shorter mix was used on later pressings of the "Girl You Know It's True" album.

Do you mean there's an additional instrumental bit before the first verse on the album version? 'Cause if not, that would make the single too long.

See, I got a promo VA sampler on Ebay which has an edit of the LP version... Says "from their upcoming album." It's the LP version with the spoken intro omitted and a bit cut out in the intrumental intro. It runs 3:48. And it's strange... it has a slightly different sound about it, even though it's the same mix. It's almost like the sampler version is very, very slightly out of phase. Maybe it's just EQ'd a bit differently... it's certainly more bassy. But it does seem to be the LP mix.

I just listened to my "Single Version" from the 12" vinyl. It has a 20 second intro before the vocals start (no spoken intro), and the printed time is (3:48). Unfortunately, I don't have the full-length album to compare. Brian, I believe the "out-of-phase" sound you're referring to is intentional. It's like that on the 12" copy, too...but not the vocals, just the background track.

guys.....i just reviewed both the commercial 45 and the commercial cassingle of this song issued in 1988 on arista 9781.....both the cassingle and 45 have the same non-described version on them.....both formats run 3:49......what i can describe as to how the intro goes is....it starts with a "bump-bump" in each channel then the music starts...there is a "ahh" at the 0:03 mark and at the 0:13 mark....the chime bells start at the 0:12 mark......the first true vocals start at the 0:21 mark with "i'm in love with you girl..."....hope this helps.....
