Anyone remember which got played more, the promo without the rap (3:08) or the single edit with the rap (4:10)?

I know its the 90's and any number of versions got played, but just trying to be as accurate as possible.

Station I worked at in '93 was an AC so we didn't play
it at all, but every station I heard it on played the
rap version. I remember seeing the no rap version on
one of the HitDiscs and gave it a listen and could see
why. The rap pretty much makes the song.

We played both at my old station. During the day, we tended to avoid rap, so it was usually the rap version at night only.

Edit without the rap was what we played at WFHN/Fun 107.

Did your station tend to play the shorter edits on the promos then?

We played the version without the rap in the daytime and the version with the rap at night and on weekends here on my CHR station in NH.

Depends on the song. We definitely did when the
shorter version was "rapless".... "This Is How We
Party" by S.O.A.P. comes to mind as one of them, and
we also cut short "Tell Me When" by Human League to
get rid of the last minute or two, which was mostly
instrumental.

I always liked the "with rap" versions better - "More
And More", "Mr. Vain" and "Rhythm Is A Dancer" all had
great raps. Others, like La Bouche's "Be My Lover"
sound better without the rap, IMO.

When I do my Hot 100 assembly I always go with the promo edits. In the 90's its more difficult to do that because while I may have heard the 3:08, I also heard the 4:11. So both versions are the "hit" version. I like to say the 90's was a wild wild west. 15 remixes a song and different versions, most of it crap....
