I was just looking at photos of the 45 Label of this song and noticed that the B-Side is "We Are The World", but the artist name listed under it is "Voices Of America", rather than USA For Africa. Is this just a mistake on the part of the label, or was there actually a separate version recorded by Voices Of America, the same people who recorded "Hands Across America"? I never had the 45, which is why I'm asking.

As an aside, I guess "Hands" must be the only charity-themed song to not see a CD or digital release in some form. I know "We Are The World" and "Voices That Care" had CD releases, but that's about it. Can anyone think of any others that didn't see a CD or digital release?

OK, after doing a little more looking around, I can see that some copies of the US 45 do have the B-Side listed as "Performed By USA For Africa", so obviously the other copies with "Voices Of America" as the artist was just a mistake on the label's part.

Yes I can confirm the B-side is the original hit version
of "We Are The World" by USA For Africa.

When our 45 stock of "We Are The World" was exhausted,
we offered this 45 as a substitute.

Thanks for that information. Was there still a demand for
"We Are The World" by the time "Hands Across America"
came out a year later?

I have three stock copies, and all of them list "Voices Of America" as the artist for "We Are The World." I believe when I was younger I had a stock copy with "USA For Africa" correctly listed.

I also have a promo 45 that had probably never been played until today. It has a listed time of 4:55 and actual time of 4:58.
