The album version of "Stop This Game" by Cheap Trick
runs 3:57, but the 45 runs 3:50. Does anyone have a 45
to see where the 7 seconds are shaved off of? I ask
because of the unusual opening--the "reverse A Day In
The Life" chord that has a very SLOOOOW fade in. It
also appears at the end, but I'm guessing they just
faded out. Perhaps this unusual structure is one reason
the song only got to #48 despite the quality and the
fact that it was produced by George Martin.

Following up from my original inquiry... does anyone
have a copy of the vinyl 45 that I could use to figure
out the edit(s) / fade(s)?

Hand that man a prize! And a surprise: they also faded it in, beginning at a later point than where the LP version fades in. The net result:

45 intro time... :19.5
LP intro time... :27

The (3:50) time listed on both the stock and DJ 45 is incorrect; the actual time is (3:24). Both sides of my DJ 45 show (3:50), but they both play (3:24). The 45 runs about 1.164 seconds slower than the LP version on Cheap Trick's 1990 Epic All Shook Up CD.

To replicate the 45, mark the time where the vocal begins, then count backwards 19.497 seconds. Delete the portion between :00 and :19.497.

Fade in from the new :00 point to :12, more gradually at first.

For the ending, fade out from 3:03.7 to 3:24.7 (21 seconds total.)

Thanks John. You are a rock star. And I still contend
this should have been a much bigger hit!
