Has anybody got a good quality homemade 45 version of The Who's "You Better You Bet"?

I'm looking for this too. Assuming it's a straight edit of the LP version, I'd be happy to give it a shot but have nothing to reference for the edit points. Anyone?

I have a file from Aaron that's the 45 version. (Not sure
if it's a needledrop or an edit of the LP version.)

I'll reverse-engineer it as best I can and provide
instructions.

I did one awhile ago and IIRC, it's from "Ultimate Collection" and I'd be happy to send a link if you'll send me your e-mail address. Sorry to say I don't have the edit points, though. It was before I started keeping track of edit points. I don't think it was a real difficult edit, if you want to use this as guide.

Bwci Bo - hope this helps.

45 - first 6 or 7 seconds of keyboards edited and starts from the first guitar chord.

LP - After the intro the lyric "You Better, You Better, You Bet" is repeated 4 times - the 45 only repeats "You Better, You Better, You Bet" twice.

The next verse below is omitted:

"I want those feeble minded axes overthrown
I'm not into your passport picture I just like your nose
You welcome me with open arms and open legs
I know only fools have needs but this one never begs"

LP repeats chorus again but 45 doesn't instead and continues into:

"I lay on the bed with you" etc and it the same thereon in as the LP version

If you manage to create the 45 version please send me a copy :)

Sorry for the delay...

To my ears, "You Better You Bet" still sounds like a halfhearted rewrite of Pete Townshend's "Let My Love Open The Door" from a year earlier. The 45 version can indeed be edited down from the LP version.

Aaron used the version from My Generation The Very Best Of. The sound on this disc is pretty good, but is a little bass-heavy. The sound on Who's Better Who's Best is a little better, but is a little bass shy. I prefer the sound on Sandstone's Rock The First Vol. 4, which has an excellent EQ. All three of these will do just fine if you want to edit them down to the 45.

Remove the first 16 beats of the LP version, (0:00-0:06.0 of My Generation), which is all the bleepy bloopy keyboards until the first guitar strum. The 45 starts with the guitar strum.

Segment 1
32 beats long
Extends from the first guitar strum to a downbeat.
Extends from 0:00 to 0:12.1 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 0:06.0 to 0:17.9 of the LP version on My Generation.

Remove the 32 beats from 0:17.9 to 0:29.8 of the LP version on My Generation.

Segment 2
136 beats long
Extends from downbeat to downbeat.
Extends from 0:12.1 to 1:02.6 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 0:29.8 to 1:20.4 of the LP version on My Generation.

Remove the 184 beats from 1:20.4 to 2:29.2 of the LP version on My Generation.

Segment 3
388? beats long
Extends from a downbeat to a snare hit on the word "you".
Extends from 1:02.6 to 3:27.0 of the 45 edit.
Extends from 2:29.2 to 4:54.3 of the LP version on My Generation.

Remove the 32 beats from 4:54.3 to 5:06.2 of the LP version on My Generation.

Segment 4
Extends from snare hit on the word "you" to end.
Extends from 3:27.0 to 3:58.8 (end) of the 45 edit.
Extends from 5:06.2 to 5:38.0 (end) of the LP version on My Generation.

Your mixdown will run 3:58, with edits at 0:12, 0:46, 1:03, and 3:27.

The timings on the 45 edit may be +/- up to a second, but the LP version timings are all correct. (Aaron's version sped up a tiny bit starting at 1:04; not sure if the real 45 does that.)

Hope that helps.
