i own the promo cd single for the song 'the way i live'
by baby boy da prince issued as universal unir 21662-2
and it contains the below tracks...
1-radio clean edit (3:58 listed; actual 3:58)
2-instrumental (5:22 listed; actual 5:21)
3-acappella (clean)(5:03 listed; actual 5:03)
4-regular version (dirty) (5:24 listed; 5:24 actual)
5-call out hook (listed 0:27; actual 0:27)
the db claims the promo cd single runs 3:45; which is not
the case; unless there are two promo cd singles.....does
anyone own another version?

My dj copy by Baby Boy Da Prince featuring Lil Boosie is Universal Republic UNIR 21751 and includes the "radio" version running 3:45 and the "explicit" version running 5:23. Ed does your copy include Lil Boosie?

i just looked at my promo cd single and it has no mention
of lil boosie anywhere....cd or rear insert.....no
where....but the rapping sounds like two different people
and not just one.....very puzzling....thx pat

The difference in the two versions is the third verse
starting at 2:34. The two versions have different
third verses performed by different rappers.
This is a rather complicated one to sort out, so if
anyone knows any of the follow information to be
inaccurate, please share your knowledge.
I do not have Ed's promo CD, but his description of
the first track matches the iTunes digital single I
purchased as soon as the song reached the Top 40 in
March of 2007. The verse at 2:34 in this version
starts with the line "This two-seat rider with the
ketchup inside" and is performed by P. Town Moe,
although he is not given feature credit on most
releases of this version.
I do have Pat's promo CD. The verse at 2:34 in this
version starts with "Thug life how I live every day"
and is performed by Lil Boosie (who namechecks himself
at 2:50). Track 1 of this promo, the 'radio' version,
is an early fade of the clean album version. Track 2,
the 'explicit' version, is the explicit album version
(the only explicit word I detect is the N-word at
2:54).
What adds to the confusion is that the 'featuring'
credits on the digital single I purchased in 2007 are
incorrect (at least on iTunes; I don't know about
other digital retailers). The digital single was
credited at the time to "Baby Boy Da Prince featuring
Lil Boosie & P. Town Moe" and has the same artwork as
Pat's promo (the artwork gives feature credit only to
Lil Boosie). This version, however, does not actually
feature Lil Boosie. Thirteen years later this digital
single is still available. The 'track' now correctly
gives feature credit only to P. Town Moe, but the
'album title' of the digital single still incorrectly
states "Feat. Lil Boosie".
The only physical commercial single format in which
this song was released in the US was as a 12-inch
single. I don't have a copy but online images of the
label indicate that it is the P. Town Moe version,
although he is not given feature credit.
Separate promo 12-inch singles were issued for each
version; once again P. Town Moe is not given feature
credit on his version.
The writing credits on Ed's promo (the P. Town Moe
version) read "L. Cennett, J. Matthews, M. LaCour".
(Baby Boy Da Prince's real name is Lawrence Cennett;
P. Town Moe's real name is Morris LaCour.) The writing
credits on Pat's promo (the Lil Boosie version) read
"L. Cennett, J. Matthews, T. Hatch". (Lil Boosie's
real name is Torence Hatch.) The Hot 100 gave the
writing credits as "L. Cennett, J. Matthews, M.
LaCour, T. Hatch". So the Hot 100 combined the writing
credits of the two versions. The Hot 100 listed the
artist credit as "Baby Boy Da Prince Featuring Lil
Boosie", but bear in mind that P. Town Moe does not
receive feature credit for most releases of his
version.
So to summarize:
- The album version is the Lil Boosie version
- The digital single version is the P. Town Moe
version (although Lil Boosie is erroneously also given
feature credit)
- The commercial 12-inch single (the only commercial
single format in which the song was physically
released) is the Lil Boosie version
- Separate promo CD singles were issued for each
version (although P. Town Moe does not receive feature
credit on his)
- Separate promo 12-inch singles were issued for each
version (although P. Town Moe does not receive feature
credit on his)
To add to the confusion, the video uses a version that
at 2:34 starts with P. Town Moe's verse, but then
partway through switches to the start of Lil Boosie's
verse.
One more little oddity about this song: It charted
much higher on the Hot 100 (#21) than on the R&B chart
(#85).

So, is Pat's radio version the official hit version? I was
a subscriber to Prime Cuts in 2007 and they released the
same version as Ed's.
