the db states that the lone appearance of the song 'some
nights' by fun is the 'lp' version.....the cd singles i've
found don't have any description on them of the
tracks.....does anyone know what the lp and single
differences are?

The Promo Only Mainstream Series had a 3:58 version,
which isn't marked as an exclusive edit, so I suspect
it's the label edit. From what I can tell, the edit is
actually a separate mix that cannot be created from the
4:36 album version.

The two versions sound materially the same through the a
capella/piano break (ending in the line "can come from
some terrible...").

When the band returns at 3:10 ("lies"), the edit mix has
background vocals under the lead over the next 16 beats.
On the LP version, the lead vocal goes on for 32 beats
with no background vocals; then the background vocals
come in afterwards for 32 beats with no lead vocals. You
may be able to mix these together to recreate the edit
but I haven't tried.

The end of the song has more mix differences:
-At the line "It's for the best we get our distance"
(3:29 on the edit), the background vocals return on the
edit but not the LP version

-The album version fades, starting around 4:04. At the
corresponding point in the edit, the song is still at
full volume and proceeds to end cold with the background
vocals and guitar, which appears to be unique to this
mix.

Also, the edit mutes an F-word around 2:48.

Hope this helps!
