please, can someone tell me the difference between the "The Man And His
Music” vinyl LP version, and the other non-labeled (i.e., the LP and 45
version) of this, thanks.

David there is no difference as all cd appearances of this song are from the vinyl LP "The Man And His Music". I just forgot to enter the appropriate comment on the last two cd appearances.

thanks, Pat. So, I take it that this is somehow different from the 45? If so,
how?   Was the song's first LP appearance on the vinyl LP "The Man And His
Music"?

The version that appears on "The Man And His Music" includeds an extra verse and to the best of my knowledge, this version first appeared on the vinyl LP "The Man And His Music".

I don't detect an extra verse, but I do detect a vastly different mix (inferior) on the "Man & His Music" CD.

If I'd've done a little Internet research, I would have easily learned that the track first appeared on the 1964 "Ain't That Good News" LP. Does anyone have this LP (on vinyl, not CD, as the latter too may not have the original version), who can get to the bottom of this track? Is "The Man And His Music" version different from the "Ain't That Good News" LP version?

Seems it was likely edited for 45 release, as the b-side to "Shake".

Did anyone ever get answers to those
questions David posed? The note in the online database
says the 45 and LP versions both run (2:36) but the CD
appearances all run over three minutes long. BTW, the
fifty year anniversary of the 45 release is this week.

Here is what I have based on the information provided above. A Change Is Gonna Come first appeared on the "Ain't That Good News" vinyl LP and on that LP the running time is (3:10). My dj 45 runs (2:35) and there is an entire verse edited out from the LP version (from 1:22 to 1:57). Both the vinyl LP "A Man And His Music" and the cd of the same name feature the opening violins fading in while the 45 and parent LP have the violins coming in at full volume.
