Hey, Pat, I've just now gotten a good foothold in the Top 40 index,
and you've done a great job updating and doing research. I just
wanted to make sure about the listing for "Tossin' And Turnin'" on
the Collectables 7685 CD of the same name. Are you actually saying
this CD has the 45 mono mix, and it's just a little longer? I'm only
asking because I've been looking for this version longer than just
about any 45. My original single is in really good shape, and I just
thought I was nuts when I thought I heard the added cymbals on it. I
just wanted to make sure before I go shopping. Thanks.

Yes I just checked the cd again and the time is correct at 3:36 and it is mono This version was also previously issued on a Hot/JWP cd titled "The Complete Recordings".

Pat,
I'm curious now also - As Paul noted above, the mono 45 mix of that has an extra hi-hat overdubbed. Does the Collectibles CD have the added hi-hat overdub and also the intro "Baby, baby, you did something to me" ?
I'd be interested because I never heard it that way.
Thanks

There is no "baby, baby, you did something to me" intro. The hi hat that I hear is on all of the other mono appearances on cd - it is the stereo versions that are missing the hi hat overdub. Do you find the hi hat missing on other mono cd appearances?

The only CD versions I have (Time-Life's The Rock & Roll Era-
1961
and Original Sound's Oldies But Goodies-Vol. 5) both
have the extra hi-hat, but what, up until recently, made this song so
maddening to find correctly on CD, was the combination of the
mono mix (with hi-hat) and the correct length! My old 45 is 10 to
12 seconds longer, and I've never heard that before on any CD
(until now, that is). Wahoo!

Actually, Paul, I believe the correct 45 length still has yet to appear on CD. All CD appearances to date run too short in most cases and too long in others. Granted, one can always fade the longer running CD appearances to match the 45 length.

Some great news for collectors regarding this number one chart topper. There finally is a CD release that has the correct 45 length, includes the missing overdubs that were on the 45 but missing on countless CD releases, plus it is in glorious stereo. You can order this Hit Parade label release now and get it shipped to you direct. Here is the link: http://ericrecords.com/htf_jb_60-65.html
