I see a "truncated fade" comment on one entry in the database; does anybody know if the 45 edit is just an early fade?

Gene, it is an edit, as far as I can remember.

At the very least the intro on the 45 is edited.

Listening to the album version, I don't remember that opening, either... seems like the single version likely starts about 9 seconds in, yes?

Then an early fade gets it to the 45 length... that sounds right to my memory, but I have nothing to compare it to.

(FYI, it surprises me that more mellow songs like this and Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes" wouldn't make the year-end Billboard pop charts, but DID hit #1 on the rock charts. My, how rock radio has changed!

The description of "edit" on the commercial 45's record label. I recreated the 45 from the vinyl LP.

The edit points on the LP version:
from 0:00 to 0:09 (remove, for 9 seconds)
from 3:38 to 3:56 (remove, about 18 seconds)
from 4:21 to end (remove)
plus ending fadeout.

Abagon, thank you so much! This is exactly the information I needed.
