Wondered if this might be useful to someone besides me, since the DJ edit (the same as the video edit, which is how I found my edit points) isn't available on CD.

There are two edits, a fade in & a fade out to create the DJ edit. To my ears, there is no difference in the mixes.

(Times are from "Slippery When Wet," 830-264-2 M-1 ripped in Exact Audio Copy with "delete leading & trailing silent blocks" checked.)

#1 - 0:08.704 - 0:22.285 -- It jumps at that 1st downbeat, straight to where the guitars start.

Working with your newly edited file, go to

#2 - 3:45.722 - 4:23.792 -- It jumps on the word "dead" to the last time it is sung in the song. (My edit is actually a hair cleaner than the 45 edit, although you've never notice without playing them in sync.)

Now to get it to the correct length you'll need to shorten the fade in & fade out, although working from a video, I'm not certain how much, to match the 45.

I've also wondered, to get the correct time, if you have to pitch it up a little... I'm not sure on that.

This was the way I heard it on the radio in 1987; I hope this helps somebody!

Technically, the 45 edit is available on CD. It was one of the earliest, if not the first, promotional CD single issued by Mercury in the US. The CD included the edit, LP, live, and acoustic versions of Wanted Dead Or Alive.
