just noticed something about the vinyl 45 for the song "man in the mirror".....the vinyl 45 has, at the very beginning of the song, what sounds like reverb or a snippet from the track before it.....none of the cd versions i have contain this small difference....has anybody else ever noticed this??

jim...does your promo cd for this song contain the proper 45 version with the anomaly?

I also have the promo CD single for this song and "single version" on the disc does not contain the anomaly described above. I am always suspicious when a faint sound can be heard at the very beginning or very end of a vinyl 45 because it is most often the result of "bleed through" where the "silent" grooves pick up the sound of the adjacent grooves where the music begins or ends. The sound can be heard very faintly and is somewhat distorted. That may be what is happening here.

i know i've had that happen listening to vinyl 45's through headphones before, but, in this instance, it's more than just faint.....it's pronounced.....if somebody else, who has the vinyl 45, can pull it out and take a listen, for my own sanity, i'd greatly appreciate it...edtop40

I just got the US 3" single today with the single version and it sounds like
everything has been turned down slightly except for the drums and vocals.
Does anyone else notice it, too? The instrumental seems to have the drums
mixed at the same volume as the album version.

thanks paul.....i just pulled out my "bad" cd by michael jackson to check if there is any carryover from the previous track and there is.....it's very subtle but it's there.....not as pronounced as the vinyl 45, but the synth note is there during the negative count-off on the cd.....

Yeah, it sounds like some sort of bleed through to me, too. I just listened to Ed's 45 dub. What do you think, Ed?

a bleed through, meaning the residual music from a tape source behind the actual music??.....i'm still up in the air on this one......it's too loud to be like all the other bleed throughs i've heard.....what's unusual, it's NOT on the b-side, the instrumental version at all...

There's been some discussion here regarding the promo CD single release for Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror" but haven't seen any details posted. My research indicates the following track listing and reported run times on Epic ESK 1006:

1) Radio Edit - 4:55
2) LP Version - 5:17

I'm assuming here that the "Radio Edit" is the same as the 45 version (unless we're going to account for the reverb anomaly Ed describes hearing at the very beginning of the commercial 45). Could anyone here who has a promo CD single copy please relay the actual timing info? Thanks!

I have the promo CD in front of me (ESK 1006), and there is no indication of "Radio Edit" anywhere on the disc. Details are as follows:

1. (non-described version) (printed 4:55; actual 5:02)
2. LP Version (printed 5:17; actual 5:18)
