Does anyone know if a promo 45 was ever issued for Eagles' "Life in the Fast Lane" that edits out the use of God's name in vain in the following passage:

She said, "Listen baby.
You can hear the engine ring.
We've been up and down that highway;
Haven't seen a ___________ thing."

I never heard of one. Both the stereo and mono sides on my DJ 45 feature the line unedited. The mono side sounds like a simple fold down.

Thanks, Bill. It's interesting that Top 40 stations were evidently willing to let the offending word air uncensored in 1977 (unless stations opted to perform their own custom edit), yet a few years later the very same word was edited out on some DJ 45 copies of the Rolling Stones' "She's So Cold" and even as recently as 2007 on Fall Out Boy's "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" (which, granted, uses the word far more frequently in the song's chorus).

I was wonder this myself. Because just two weeks ago on the local oldies station (Majic 105.7)they played a rebroadcast of AT40 circa 1977, and it had an edited version. The station doesn't edit it any other time they play that song. I figured Casey just wasn't comfortable with that back then and his team made the edit.

Just heard the "...Haven't seen a ___________ thing"
portion of the song on the CC Premium Choice Classic Hits
stream. The god in god damn was muted. Custom edit is my
guess.

Yes, that is a custom edit.

Bill, I figured you'd know :). It was actually a nice
crossfade edit.

I did an edit a few years ago. Not sure how to share it with the "masses," but can send a link to anyone interested.

I don't hear it as taking God's name in vain, if you look
up the definition of the work "vain". In that way, I also
have no problem with Steppenwolf'd "The Pusher".

Anybody know where the fade starts to simulate the 45?

Well, silly me. The 45 and the LP are the same. It's "New Kid In Town" that has a length designation.

Never mind.

(And thanks to Jim for the dub.)
