According to the Collector's Choice website, this next volume is due to be released this coming Tuesday, 5/26/09. I have pre-ordered it through CC, via USPS, to avoid the Fedex hassles I had with Hip-O Select's new shipping procedures last time I ordered. I expect to have it shortly, and I will, as usual, be providing Pat with a "guest review" of this collection's contents shortly after I receive it.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jim! I was just looking for information about this release on Hip-O Select's website about a week ago, but couldn't find anything.
Does anyone know when James Brown's commercial 45 releases started coming out in stereo?

For anyone interested, I have completed my "guest review" of this latest 2-CD set, and Pat has been kind enough to again add my findings into his database. To answer Todd's question, Vol. 7's liner notes state that Brown went against the "stereo tide of the era", actually "re-embracing mono" in early 1970. While many of his '68 & '69 stock copies were issued in stereo, only one stereo stock version appears on Vol. 7 (the set's very first track, "Sex Machine".) All of his other Vol. 7, 1970-72 database entry 45s appear in mono, for either/both promo & stock copies, just as they did on the original 45s. The notes said that Brown would often like a "rough mix", done late in a recording session, and then wouldn't want it "fooled with" (made into stereo, I assume.) When Polydor started issuing his 45s in 1971, they let Brown construct/mix his tracks exactly the same way he did while recording for King. His A&R boss at Polydor said, "James didn't care if it was mono or stereo - he just wanted it to sound good!"

This is a great set and the liner notes are very imformative.
The true promo version of Super Bad, how cool is that.
