In the database, there is nothing noted for "Rock The Casbah" by the Clash. On my CD The Singles Columbia 468946 (import version), the mix of this song is different than the mix found on Combat Rock. If I had to guess, I would say this remixed version is the one found on the 45, although I don't have the 7" to verify.

Can anyone who owns the 45 check to see which mix is on there?

The 45 in the USA was remixed by Bob Clearmountain. The single mix has the sound effects lower, is more compressed, and has a little bit of drum pre-roll that the original Combat Rock album version didn't have.

Thanks for the info, Andy! Now, it will be up to Pat to determine which discs (other than The Singles) contain the 45 version and which contain the LP version.

my version on the double disc set "Story of the Clash vol. 1" is the slightly
more dance oriented mix in which the the vocal scream on the word "jive"
in the line "The crowd caught a wiff of that crazy casbah jive" has a major
echo effect on it that blends into the beginning of the chorus.

Hi Budaniel,

The version you have on "Story Of The Clash vol. 1" IS the 45 version mixed by Bob Clearmountain.

Just wanted to clarify that part of the mix, which is so dramatic a
difference. I love that part. :-)

Are there two different 45 mixes? The US 45s on discogs say "Mixed by Glyn Johns":

Hmmm. I always thought the Glyn Johns “45 version” was just
the album version. I find it interesting that there are no
US 45 pressings on Discogs with the Clearmountain credit.
This is what had led me to believe that the Clearmountain
“single version” was only a single outside of the US
and that the US was instead serviced the straighter, less
dancey album version.

I suppose it’s possible, as well, that the US 45 could be
identical to the other worldwide pressings audio-wise, but
that would mean that either the credit on the label is wrong
(likely) or it is the only pressing out of a zillion that is
correct (probably not as likely).

After listening to the US 45 single on Youtube, I believe EternalStatic is correct. The US 45 Glyn Johns mix is actually the Bob Clearmountain remix. Funny enough, I never heard of this single remix. Radio Stations here in LA only play the LP version (which is the actual Glyn Johns mix).

Just chiming in to say that my stock 45 also indicates
that it was mixed by Glyn Johns on the label but the
sound effects are mixed down a little low and there is a
definite echo effect on "...jive" which as listed above
as being attributes of the Clearmountain mix.

Deadwax reads T 255-170372-1C MASTERDISK HW T11

Just thought since we were on the topic of this song I couldn't help but remember growing up that this was one of the songs that having google in the 2000's helped me figure out the lyrics.

If you want a good laugh at how the kid in me heard the lyrics, just watch.

LOL! I misheard a few of lyrics, but once I saw them printed out, I think I got most of them correct.
Enunciation wasn't Strummer's strong suit, to say the least!
