As Ed and I both work diligently on figuring out which 45 versions/lengths we need on CD to complete our respective music collections, Ed has helped me uncover another 45/LP difference. He informs me that the commercial 45 of Mac Davis' "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me" runs 3:08, which is approximately :05 longer than the LP length.

Just out of curiosity, Pat, what is your policy regarding mention of run time differences between 45 and LP lengths? If the difference is only :04 or :05 seconds, is that enough to warrant a specific mention in your book?

I don't have any strict criteria established for how much time differential there must be before warranting a notation but :04 to :05 should probably be mentioned.

On a similar note, I recently discovered that the followup Mac Davis single, "Everybody Loves a Love Song", has a 45 version that differs from the album version. Although not a top 40 hit, this seems like the appropriate time to mention it -- the 45 has additional cymbals (mostly hi-hats) throughout most of the song.

Reviving an old one..

I picked up the DJ copy of "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me", both the mono and stereo side list a time of 3:02.
The stereo side runs 3:03. The mono side runs 3:09 and is at a slightly faster pitch (probably matching the mono stock 45.) I don't have the LP but if it's like many Columbia promo 45's from that time the 3:03 side probably matches the LP pitch/length.

The database currently contains DJ 45 information for Mac Davis' "Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me". To supplement the database, I thought I'd pass along that the actual commercial 45 run time is 3:08, not 3:02 as stated on the record label.

The 45 is in mono and runs at least :05 longer than all stereo CD appearances, including on the Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me/Stop and Smell the Roses disc (Collectables 5851). That said, does anyone have a vinyl copy of Davis' Baby Don't Get Hooked on Me LP from 1972 who can pass along the title track's run time?

To add another piece to the puzzle, just got in a stereo/mono promo 45 for this song, hoping I could piece on the missing :05 to the Have A Nice Day stereo copy I have. The stereo side fades out sooner than all cd copies at about 3:00.

The mono side of this promo 45 seems to run a bit slower than the length mentioned in this thread. It runs 3:10.

EDIT: Typed this a bit too fast beforeDeadwax is: ZSP 156517 - 1B on the mono side, ZSS 156518 - 1B on the stereo side

BTW, the listed time on both sides of the mono/stereo promo I purchased is 3:02.
