Pat, there were two different promo 45's put out for this song. The first was a mono/stereo promo 45 that contained the same listed (3;47), actual (3:46) version that appeared on the commercial 45. The second mono/stereo promo 45, stating "Edited Version" on both sides, has the same listed (3:20), actual (3:18) version on both sides. This is the one you currently reflect in the database. I just wanted to let you know that the "stock 45 version" was also issued on a promo 45, with that length, as well.

Anyone know where the edit points are for the short promo
version?

Thanks to Jim for sending me a dub of the promo 45.

I determined that the promo 45 is an early fade. The fade
is rather quick from 3:11 - 3:18. Simple right?

Not so fast, I noticed that the mix on the promo 45 is
different from the mix I ripped from Rhino "The Very Best
Of" CD. It's not VERY different, many of the changes are
subtle. Slightly different reverb, slightly different
placement of some elements. It's easier to hear under
headphones.
So, I assume the promo 45 is really an early fade of the
stock 45, and that this is a 45 mix vs. LP mix.

I checked the online versions of their various hits
comps, and seems the common "Best-Of" Cd's all have the
LP mix, except one: "The Essential" (Atlantic 76076) has
the 45 mix.

Other than overall "feel" the best way I can tell you how
to spot the mix is in the intro. On the LP mix, the
bongos and the horns are in the center. In the 45 mix,
they are mostly in the right channel.
