In my 8th Edition, the comment "LP Version" is listed next to all instances of "You Got It All" by the Jets. I've seen a picture of the 45 online, and the label lists a run time of 4:05--the same as the LP Version.

Is this a case where the mix on the 45 is completely different? Or is it an edit and the label time is incorrect?

This is a great puzzle to me as I have no notes in my file supporting the entry "LP version". I just tracked the dj 45 with the original cd and the two are identical and the 45 time is correct at 4:05 so ignore the "LP version" comment.

I sure hope I'm helping make your database (and book) more accurate and not being a nuisance! :)

Aaron:

Speaking for myself, I can say with certainty that you're posts have been a big help. You're catching differences and nuances between songs on CD that no one else has caught. Pat's website is pretty much the only one of its kind and I'm continually amazed at how such a small group of us has managed to uncover so much valuable information! As Top 40 music collectors, our collective goal should always be to work together to compile the most accurate information possible, so by all means keep up the good work.

I agree, Aaron. Your posts are extremely helpful... though I want to bang my head against the wall sometimes with how many versions are out there.

Abagon reports the actual and printed commercial 45 run time of the Jets' "You Got It All" is 4:05, which exactly mirrors Pat's DJ 45 run time info. (Ed, perhaps you might have a different pressing?) Now, does anyone have the Jets' self-titled vinyl LP from 1987 on MCA who can pass along the song's run time on it? If it matches the 4:08 time on the self-titled album's CD release (MCA 5667), then perhaps the database should note that the 45 length is 4:05 while the LP length is 4:08.

On the 45, the song indeed runs 4:05. It is a slightly early fade of the LP version. The fade ends after the lyric "You must have been heaven-sent".

On the eponymous CD The Jets, with silence trimmed, the song runs 4:08, the fade ending after four more words: "Hearing me call, you—". You could make it match the 45 by applying a linear fade starting from 4:00, ending right before the snare hit after "sent".
