In 2001, Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" first cracked the Top 40 portion of the Billboard Hot 100 solely due to country radio airplay. Country stations played the 4:53 version on Womack's I Hope You Dance CD (MCA 088170099), which features the soaring harmonies of Sons of the Desert on background vocals. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty certain the artist credits for the song during its entire run on the Billboard Hot 100 was: "Lee Ann Womack featuring Sons of the Desert". Later, MCA issued a newly remixed pop version to Top 40 radio that removed the steel guitars and replaced Sons of the Desert's vocals with Womack's. When the commercial CD and cassette single was finally released, it featured the following tracks and run times:
1) Pop Version - 4:03 (this version does not feature Sons of the Desert)
2) Album Version - 4:53 (this version does feature Sons of the Desert)
The Pop Version is what ultimately propelled "I Hope You Dance" to its #14 peak on Billboard.
This information should be noted in the database. It appears all CDs in the database to date consist of the LP Version.

The vinyl 45 has only the 4:53 'country' version.

There are 2 different 45 releases for "I Hope You Dance". It first came out when it was a country hit and featured the album mix on the A side. When it finally crossed pop it was released a second time with the Pop mix on the A side and the album mix on the B side. As a side note the reissue came out at the same time as the follow up, "Ashes By Now"

Does anyone have the CD promo disc for this song? I'm interested in hearing the UK and US pop mixes.
CHUM-FM in Toronto played the song in 2001, and it seemed to be more prominent in the strings (like the CD version), but I'm not sure I remember the "Sons of the Desert" on the version they played.

International Remix (This one has me curious)
If there were a way to sample them all online, it would be terrific, or even if I could get a verbal description of these mixes, it might help.

Does anyone know where this version was sourced from?

Top Hits U.S.A. released the song three times:
First the "Single Version" on disc T528 (3/17/2000), in the Country category, actual length 3:49 (but they're known to shorten fades quite a bit). It appears to just be a shorter edit of the original album version. It has a steel guitar and prominent background vocals by the Sons of the Desert.
Then the "Radio Edit" on disc T547 (7/28/2000), in the AC category, actual length 3:58. A remix with louder overall instrumentation, and no steel guitar. The background vocals by the Sons of the Desert are still there, but sometimes nearly drowned out by the music.
Finally the "Pop Remix" on disc T563 (11/17/2000), in the CHR category, actual length 4:00. A complete remix with a piano during the intro. Instead of the Sons of the Desert, it has female background vocals.

The song was big enough to make in onto the recurrent discs for Top Hits USA.
For CHR, the recurrent discs RA63 and RH64 used the "Pop Remix".
For Country, the recurrent disc RC60 used the "Single Version".
Top Hits USA thought that the "Radio Edit" wasn't the hit version in either pop or country.

The Brian Rawlings Remix is a club/dance remix, and I don't ever recall hearing this on the radio.
In addition to the three US promo CDs listed above, I also have MCNR-02014-2, which has both the Single Version and Album Version. Based on the catalog number, this was apparently issued first.

I also have this in a couple places in their collections. However, the ones that are listed as "Single Version" timed at 3:42. I'm told the actual time varies from the listed time,
so I'd have to actually pull one down for the actual time to be accurate.
They also have a couple that are listed as "Radio Edit", with a listed time of 3:52. Again, the terms "Radio Edit" and "Single Version" get interchanged so often, it's hard to keep up.

Note that TM Century (a.k.a. TM Studios, formerly Jones TM) doesn't list the entire length of the track. They list the time at which the radio station should start playing the next programming element (a jingle, commercial, the next song, etc.) or when the DJ can start talking over the ending of the song. If it fades out, this is often about 10 seconds before the actual end of the song.
It also sounds like Lee Ann either re-recorded part of the vocals on the Pop Remix, or they used an alternate take for it (mistakenly? purposely?).
