Pat,
Is there any particular reason why Latimore's song
"Somethin''Bout'Cha" from 1977 isn't included in the
database? It made #37 on Billboard's Hot 100 & was a Top
10 R&B hit as well. I know it's available on Rhino's
"Straighten It Out:The Best Of Latimore" CD which is a
U.S. release. Just curious...thanks.

Chances are, it didn't chart in the top 40 in Cash Box.

My commercial 45 has a listed time of (3:42), but an actual time of (3:45). FYI, the version of this song that appears on the Rhino Greatest Hits CD that Chris references in his initial post runs (4:54), which I assume to be the original LP version's length.

Wow, good to see Chris Quinn here, thinking he's a Northeast OH broadcaster from the Cleveland area. Although, his initial post was in 2006.

John, you are correct. Chris was a top DJ for WIXY back in the station's Top 40 heyday, and he's a great guy to boot!

What was the difference between Cash Box and Billboard?
Many of my "older" co-workers claimed that Billboard's charts were sometimes just "hype".
Was Cash Box more accurate?
I know it may be the wrong place to ask this question, but I'd like to know.

Thanks.

Cashbox only dealt with sales. Billboard accounted for both sales and radio airplay.

Only up to a certain date, Grant. Cash Box began incorporating airplay we think sometime in the early-to-mid 1970s. Haven't found an exact date yet, but the evidence points to '74 or '75.

Though the chart dropped the notation "does not include airplay reports" in 1968, Cash Box's year-end charts still refered to the chart as "Top 100 Bestselling Singles" through 1974.

Beginning with the 1975 year-end chart, it simply said "Compiled from the Cash Box Top 100 charts." And by the late '70s, the chart began including a "greatest gainer airplay" notation each week.

However, another difference is that Billboard began incorporating singles sales to jukebox dealers in 1972, due to declining retail singles sales. For that reason, some people feel the Cash Box charts are more accurate around this time period.

my commercial 45 issued glades 1739 states a run time on the label as 3:42 but actually runs 3:45 and is just and early fade of the full length 4:50 cd/lp version....

Has anyone seen the early fade on CD or just the longer LP
version as on the Rhino "Best Of" disc listed in the
initial post?
