Both a short and long 45 were released on the Back Beat
label in 1974. The short 45 runs 2:33 while the long 45
runs 2:47 and is a different mix. Both 45s have a listed
time of 2:20 so impossible to tell which one you may have
unless you play the record. All domestic CD releases
include the short version/mix. Has anyone found the longer
alternate mix on an import CD? Does anyone have the longer
alternate mix on a 45 that can give us deadwax info.

I found three distinct analog transfers of the short version, all originating from 1991.
One is Priority's Mega-Hits Dance Classics Vol. 9 (1991). The balance seems a little off here, so I think the other masterings are better choices if you have them.
Another is Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies Vol. 15 1974 Take Two (1991). It sounds pretty nice here. The same analog transfer is used on:- Time-Life's 2-CD Rhythm + Grooves Let's Groove
Yet another is Rhino's Didn't It Blow Your Mind Vol. 13 (1991). It also sounds pretty nice here, and has a slightly larger dynamic range than Sounds. The same analog transfer is used on:- Time-Life's Sounds Of The Seventies '70s Dance Party 1972-1974 (1997)
- Rhino's multi-CD Can You You Dig It (2001)
If I had to pick, I'd choose Didn't It Blow Your Mind Vol. 13, although any of the above really do sound just fine.

Thanks for checking your 45s Aaron. I'm guessing the longer
alternate mix/version was probably an early pressing that
is now hard to find.
Thanks Ron for the analysis on the CDs where we can find
the best sound for the shorter mix/version.

A note: RFS (Robert F Sowell) mastered this in Nashville,
TN at Woodland Sound Studios. I've only seen the ABC-Back
Beat 45 as a stock copy. Seen a promo or two on Back Beat
in radio station libraries, but never dug a copy in the
wild from the crates. I do have several stock 45 RPM
singles. My 3 copies are all 2:47.
