Just like 1985, I have pretty much exhausted all the lower charting hits available on albums and in the digital realm. I know a lot of people on this board sometimes come across the songs on this list or can point me in the right direction where to obtain the CD for them.

For some there are LP versions but no idea if the 45 can be made from them. I have always been surprised that Whitney's first charting single Hold Me has never been on CD in its 45 version, just LP.

Carol Lynn Townes - 99½ - Isn't the single version also the Breakin' soundtrack album version? The CD releases of that soundtrack do not sound great, though.

330 - Thompson Twins - The Gap 4:09 - a.k.a. AOR Version... this is on the 2014 Cherry Pop CD Remixes and Rarities

#417 I think you mean Beat Street Breakdown.

Sorry about the misspelling you are correct.

As you can see almost all of these never made CD in their 45 version. Let me know if you come across anything else, I will check out the TT track.

Based on a promo 45 dub, I was able to recreate the short
promo edit for 305 - S.O.S. Band - Just The Way You Like It
3:30.

I have Bonnie Tyler's "Take Me Back [Edit]" on Cherry
Red's 2017 2-CD set "Remixes and Rarities". The sound
quality suffers from shrill brick-walling, so a re-creation
from a better source would probably be a better option. I
have the digital 45 of Teddy's/Whitney's "Hold Me" from
7digital. Psychedelic Furs' "The Ghost in You [Single
Version]" is on 2005's "Heartbreak Beat" (SonyBMG
compilation). Check your e-mail, Rich.

Vanity's "Pretty Mess" appears on this CD apparently:

I have the single version of "Blue Light" by david gilmour,
extracted from a bootleg box called "Pink Floyd - A Tree
Full Of Secrets".
I don't have the year of release, but I can say that there
are 18 CDs, and you can find it on the web in flac or mp3.

I'm interested to know if streisand's "left in the dark" has ever appeared
anywhere on CD besides the original "emotion" cd (which has never seen a
remaster of any kind...)? I've never been crazy about the sound of that CD...

No. "Left in the Dark" hasn't appeared anywhere else except the original
album's CD, which has never been remastered/reissued. It's actually my
favorite Streisand song (Hey, I'm a huge Jim Steinman fan) and probably my
favorite Streisand album ("Emotion"). Sadly, when I upgraded my LP to CD, I
noticed they took out about 5 seconds of the fade, which was on the LP but
not the CD. The CD could contain 74-80 minutes of music and I don't
understand why they'd ever do this. Has anyone ever taken the LP, cleaned it
and tacked it on to the CD version? On CD, those strings at the end just feel
like they were faded much too fast.

Right here and now (Bill Medley) was released in Germany on
CD in the mid 80s and there is a Japanese reissue of Joey
Chemay band The riper the finer from 2002. Turley
Richards only hit is included in the album Therfu which was
reissued for the first time in Japan a few years ago. I
guess LP and 45 versions are basically the same (maybe Lp
is a few seconds longer).

336 - Donna Summer - Love Has A Mind Of Its Own 3:40

I went looking for this online.

I found an unofficial collection of MP3s, source uncertain, which purports to have a single version, but which is actually the album version playing about 4% too fast. If whoever ripped it hadn't cut off the end, it would run 4:05. It's possible this isn't actually on a 45 like this.

On YouTube I found what is said to be an 'original 7" mix' which is an early fade that also has a short section of solo piano edited out. It runs about 3:40. I assume this is what you are after. This particular rip does not show the record playing, and it has suspicious clicks right at the edit point, so I don't know if it is a legit rip.

On the recent Encore CD box set, there is a so-called 7" Single Version which runs 3:48. It is an early fade of the album version. Compared to the edited 45, it has the fade in exactly the right place but doesn't have the edit. I don't know if it was ever released like this on vinyl, but it's a good starting point to make your own edit..

To match that YouTube rip, starting from the version on that Encore CD, at 1:11, cut on the beat, removing the part from the beginning of the first piano note to the equivalent spot 7 seconds later, where there are strings in the background. Also right before the edit point, select 75 ms and do a 3 dB volume increase. Again, not sure if this legit since I can't confirm that this isn't a homemade edit. I'd like to hear a confirmed rip of the actual 45 to be sure.

234 - Queen - I Want To Break Free. I have a copy that runs
4:06 on the deluxe version of The Works. Would that
be the single mix you're looking for?

The 45 specifically says it is a "special edited mix." Without hearing the 45 no way to tell. I don't think it ever appeared on a CD or a comp yet.

Regarding “Right Away” by Hawks - I have their 1981 s/t album that I
converted to digital and my file of this song runs 3:38. I’m guessing
(hoping) I put a second or so of silence on the fade so that puts it pretty
close to the 3:36 timing listed above. The 45 postings on discogs list a time
of 3:39 on both the promo and commercially released 45s. I don’t have a
copy of the 45 so I can’t verify the actual timing, but I would almost think
the LP and 45 versions are the same (I most certainly could be wrong,
though).

That being said, I don’t believe this is on cd anywhere. There was a cd
released in 2003 by the independently run Not Lame power pop label but
this song was a demo version running 3:18 (apparently the version they
used to get them signed to Columbia).

Hawks did have “It’s Alright, It’s O.K.” released on Volume 3 of the “Heard It
On The Radio” series on Renaissance. Too bad their s/t album hasn’t seen a
proper release on cd anywhere.

Correction, my copy from the deluxe version of The Works,
labeled single remix, runs 4:15. There's also a copy of the
remix on the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack that runs 3:40.

316 Boys band Please don't stop me baby. The CD (both LP
and 45 matching) was resissued in Japan in 2016.

426 Jennifer Warnes All the right moves, included in her
greatest hits CD issued by Raven (Australia) Love lifts us
up from 2004.

256 Kenny Nolan Us and love, included in CD reissue of
Night Miracles (Japan and Korea 2021). LP matches 45
length.

Thank you all for the updates. I've been able to secure a
cd version Jennifer Warnes and Kenny Nolan from those exact
cds. The rest I do not have in my collection. If anyone
has them and can rip/send a lossless file, that would be
great.

I've updated the list...at this point if anyone knows of any other sources let me know. Otherwise it appears none of the remaining songs are able to be recreated from the LP or are unique 45 mixes/edits.

*** The Blues (Paul Simon) has clean lyrics in the 45, its available off a CD but with the explicit lyrics only just to clarify since someone asked me what the difference is.
