Yeah, several songs featured on the 1987 "You Can Dance Edits" promo CD are making their commercial CD debut here.

"Open Your Heart (Video Version)"??? Why? Why not the promo remix edit?

And The Second Disc lists "Lucky Star (7" Version)" instead of "Material Girl," but sadly that appears to be an error. All the official websites list "Material Girl." Which makes sense, as "Lucky Star" was not a #1 dance hit.

But where's "Causing a Commotion," which was a #1 dance hit? Looks like it was dropped so they could include both "Everybody" and "Physical Attraction" from the "You Can Dance" album.

Yeah, it's a disappointing release in terms of track selection and the mixes chosen. A better approach, IMO, would've been to give us the single mixes of all the hits (not just #1 dance singles), and then supplement the #1 dance singles on a separate collection. Nearly the entire second half are songs I don't care about, but I would've sprung for a 3-disc set had it included the correct 7" mixes and hits like Borderline, Lucky Star, Live To Tell, Rain, I'll Remember, etc.

One thing that may be making its digital debut here is
"Fever (Radio Edit)." That's what the UK remix edit was
called, the B-side of their 45, and it's never been on CD.
Hopefully that's it, but no runtimes listed on iTunes yet,
so it's hard to tell. (This is a different mix from Edit
One or Edit Two.)

I guess there just isn't enough love for this set, to actually buy it. (Snickers)

They did, the Japan box set of singles that is worth a fortune now was as close as we will get to an actual singles compilation that matches the 7 inch versions. Whoever did Immaculate Collection back in 1990 had the right idea but the wrong versions...

Tracks 46-50 are a waste. They could have put so many other tracks...

The Japan box doesn't really count. It was limited edition to begin with, not released worldwide, didn't include the US 7" versions of all the hits, wasn't compiled onto the fewest number of CDs, etc. Even when it was new, the Japan box was super expensive. A well-done 3-CD set with all the correct mixes could retail for under $40.

Well... the Japan box had the 7" version of "most" of the
hits, but Lucky Star, Like a Virgin, and Express Yourself
were all the album versions. But pretty much everything
else was correct.

It does seem like a waste, but it has a theme -- it's a
collection of her 50 #1s on Billboard's Dance/Club chart.

Trying to figure out which version "Holiday" is... Qobuz
is listing the run times (no samples yet) and Holiday
runs 4:20. No 4:20 version has ever been released.

I'll probably just buy the tracks I don't already have as
downloads, which would be the Fever radio edit, the
Impressive Instant remix edit, and the Open Your Heart
video version.

This is the first release in her recent partnership with
Warner which is supposed to include deluxe reissues. At
the time, WB issued a statement saying, "For the first
time, Madonna will personally curate expansive deluxe
editions for many of her landmark albums, as well as
introduce unique releases for special events, and much
more."

Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of her first
album, so hopefully we will get all the correct single
edits in a deluxe edition.

I know "Holiday" was edited on the 45, but weren't "Like A Virgin" and "Material Girl" the same on the 45 and album? I'm
trying to figure out why they're listed as 7" Versions.

If you zoom in on the liner notes in this image, you can see that it says the 7" singles were the album versions:

What no one can figure out is "Holiday." The listed 4:20 (both in this image and on the download sites) is about 15 seconds longer than the run time of the 45.

What Aaron said. Give us the singles / hit versions and if you want to show what a "multi decade artist" she
is, include the later bunk (IMO) at the end or on a second disc that we'll never listen to. Maybe it's coming.

They released a video for "Holiday". It is not the original
7".

The good news is that the edits are correct. The 2022 remaster, however, has a longer fade out than the actual 7" single, and it seems to have a good amount of dynamic range compression. There are a few spots in particular that sound distorted.

IMO, another mediocre compilation. I'm happy I was not
expecting anything from it given the past experience with
her re-releases and the Celebration project, which I
remember was discussed here.

Brian is correct, the Fever "Radio Edit" (a radio friendly
version of the Murk Boys Miami Mix) has made its debut
digitally, unfortunately the brickwalling ruins the
listening experience for me, beyond any discussions on the
track listing of the compilation itself.

And just as in Celebration, sound glitches. In "Open Your
Heart" (Video Version), there are some digital clicks or
some digital artifact, starting 0:53, I didn't bother to
check the rest of the track and compilation.

It's incredible that to this date, the best source for that
version remains the 20+ year-old Immaculate Collection DVD
with PCM sound and ample dynamic range (the version
appeared again on the Celebration DVD but the intro has
sound issues and the audio track is heavily compressed).

The "Keep It Together" remix is previously unreleased, but
again, the fact that it sounds up there all the time,
simply takes away the joy for me.

On a happier note, I am thankful for this board and the
knowledgeable and kind people I have met throughout all
these years!
