Kim Wilde's "You Came" only hit #41 somehow.

Instead of the ~3:30 single version released everywhere else, the U.S. & Canada got a Shep Pettibone & Steve Peck remix which is printed as "4:02" but actually runs a bit over 4:11, with the fade starting at 4:05, right after the beats drop out.

...At least, that's the situation with the promo CD single. Can anyone confirm that the 7" releases are the same?

I just gave a listen to my promo 45 of this, and it is as
you described.
Agreed it should have been a bigger hit.

And my stock copy, MCA 53370, also states 4:02 but my timing runs 4:12.4. So yes, it's the same.
We received it in my store on 8/24/1988. -Bill.

MCA didn't do anything to promote it here and Kim was in Europe opening for Michael Jackson on the Bad
tour at the time. They really should've waited until the tour was over to release this in the US.

Just to confirm what y'all have said here, this is what I find as the lengths and descriptions of the various versions, from shortest to longest:

(One entry on Discogs shows a 3:11 length on side B, but I believe this is a misprint as the label doesn't match this and the B side of other singles {a different song} is listed as running 3:11. I think we can safely disregard this entry.)

3:29 -- 7" Version, released as the single version outside the United States

4:12 -- labeled as 4:02, it is a short remix by Shep Pettibone which was used as the Single and Promo Version in the United States.

4:33 -- Album Version

{There is a 6:01 "Soul Revenger Electro Mix" but I don't believe this was an official release and I suspect it was released later than the original single release}

6:43 -- Extended Version, available on the 12" single

7:35 -- Shep Pettibone Extended Remix, available on a separate 12" single

-----

I hope this information helps somebody... and if nothing else, when I forget this information in later years (or months), at least I'll have it documented here. :-)

Yep. There are also two Shep Pettibone mostly instrumental remixes:

• 4:51 Dub Version #1
• 4:44 Dub Version #2

These, plus all the versions except the US single, were released in Europe on the 2013 reissue of the Close album.

Looking through Discogs, it seems the only CD sources for the US edit are:

You Came (1988 MCA promo single) - pricey! I sold mine for $65 in 2019, another went for $85 in 2020, none since then.
CHR Sampler (1988 MCA promo comp) - rare but one is up for $10 currently.
Arthur Baker presents Dance Masters: Shep Pettibone (2021 Edsel UK comp) - apparently uses promo CD single as source, mastered louder but not brickwalled.
