I don't know how many here might be familiar with Randy
Price's Super Charts project, so I thought I would bring
it up.
Randy is the same guy who collected the Cash Box charts
for their website. Apparently, he's been working on a
project that would attempt to combine the methods of the
three major music trades (Billboard, Cash Box, Record
World) into an overall chart. I've seen them here and
there on the Forgotten Hits blog from time to time, and
they're really fun to look at.
Well, this year, the blog has been posting the charts
from 1971 every Sunday. Check them out.

And anyone who is familiar with the project, do you know
if he intends to make them all available at some point?

Why not ask Randy direct? He’s really helpful and a chart lover.
His public email is randypny@gmail.com

They are fun to look at for sure. Obviously a labor of love for Randy. I know that Kent Kotal approached Joel
about printing them as a Record Research book, but Joel's really not interested. Maybe they could do some kind of
online funding campaign and pay to have them printed themselves. Or maybe just offer them digitally.

Kent Kotal and I are still discussing ways to make the SuperCharts available at
a reasonable cost. Stay tuned...

Randy, please tell us more. Are you calculating the average of Billboard, Cashbox, and Record World each week, or is there more math to it than that? Cheers !!

Not speaking for Randy here. But as someone who has
tried to do just that, it's not really that easy.
Differences in the three charts make a straight average
difficult.
For one thing, there's the fact that both Cash Box &
Record World, in the 60's, combined various versions of
the same song in one chart position, while Billboard
separated them. Then, in the late 60's, Billboard &
Record World began listing two-sided hits in a single
position, while Cash Box separated them until sometime
in the mid-70's. Both of these differences can cause
issues.
I can understand why Randy would want to keep his
precise method to himself, I would be curious to hear
how he dealt with either or both of these situations.
Either way, Randy, know that, whatever way you and Kent
come up with to share these charts, you can count on me
to be ready to pay for it. The 1971 charts have been a
blast.

Does anyone know what happened to Randy's Cashbox site?
When I try to access it now, I am receiving an Error

If you do a GOOGLE search for "Cashbox" and a specific decade (50s, 60s, etc.), you can find your way back to the decade-specific pages and
the 10 years within them but the links to the other decades within those pages are not active. I'm assuming the site is now dormant or there
are issues with the webhost, even though the charts are still accessible using this reverse-engineering method. Hopefully most if not all of
this is backed up on wayback machine by now.

Here's part of the message that Randy posted last month on BSN...
We're working on transferring the Cash Box Archives to a different provider, which I hope will alleviate
the problems that have sometimes cropped up in recent years.

Thanks, Jared and Paul. Good to know the site is just in
transition now, not lost forever. I was able to locate the
decade pages for the '50's, '60's, '70's and '80's, but not
the '90's. I also could not find any of the Country
archives. This one I miss the most as Record Research has
not published any books yet for that. (Hint, hint - Paul!)
