Eric, I hadn't previously known about that particular promo 12", so thanks for
posting about what you saw. I did manage to locate one on-line for a great
price, and bought it. Once I receive it, I'll post all the particulars.

Indeed the 5:29 version was the short version of the promo
45, but I don't think it was released commercially during
the song's chart run. It WAS the B-side of "You Took The
Words Right Out Of My Mouth". Is that how your copy is, or
were there 2 versions of the single?

The 12 inch promo contains an edit exclusive to that
release (with play by play) I don't remember all of the
edit points but I do know that instead of repeating the
line "We're Gonna Go All The Way Tonight" 4 times, it
only repeats 3 times. And it has a very early fade.
There's probably one more edit, I just don't remember
where it is. It was edited nicely, not like the 5:29
edit.

The coolest part of that promo 12" is the second cut of side 2 - a 6:58 listed version which contains a version of "Paradise" that has Phil Rizzuto MIXED OUT (not just edited out).

I will argue, however, that the Phil Rizzuto segment is the most entertaining section of the record!

I remember hearing several stations playing house mixes
with custom play by play over that bridge. Never knew
there was a "no Phil" mix available.
Kind of "We Built This City" where stations inserted their
own commentary over the "no dj" version.

My store had a nice Labor Day sale, so I decided to pick
up the 12" WLP after all. Jim, I think you'll be happy
with this addition.

I listened to the shorter edit (6:58) with play-by-play,
and found it was really well done; even actively
listening, I didn't notice any edits at all. Comparing
the edit and full version on Adobe Audition, I found the
edit is actually pretty complex, with about 6+- edits,
including one out of sequence, plus an early fade.

More details to come when I have a moment to
confirm/document more properly.

Well, I didn't expect this to take a year, but thanks to the extra hour today, I finally sat down with this!

Comparing the 6:58 promo version to the BAT OUT OF HELL CD, I've identified five cuts and an early fade. Some of the
edits are out of sequence, so if you want to replicate this, you might start by marking the original file into these
six segments:

A 0:00-3:23
B 3:27-4:56
C 5:55-6:23
D 5:24-5:30
E 5:18-5:24
F 6:23-7:52

Here are the edit points:

A to B: Cut before the word "We're" (this removes the third refrain of "We're gonna go all the way tonight")

B to C: Cut on the word "Take" in the line "Will you take me away"

C to D: Cut on the fourth beat, after the line "Let Me Sleep on It"

D to E: Cut on the fourth beat after the line "in the morning"

E to F: Cut on the fourth beat after the second "Let me sleep on it"

Fade the last ~9 seconds, starting around the word "You" in the line "end my time with you"

The final edit has cuts at 3:23, 4:52, 5:20, 5:26, and 5:32, and the fade goes from 6:51 to 7:00. Good luck.

I can't imagine this song without Phil Ruzzutto.

Eric, the out of sequence above threw me off. Oh well.

I spotted yet another edit for "Paradise." Epic put out a 12" EP, AS 415,
promoting Bat Out Of Hell with edits of three songs on one side, and the
full versions on the other side.

This has a version of Paradise listed at 6:20. Someone posted it on YouTube,
where it runs only 6:04 (assuming it's dubbed at the right speed and is indeed
the record pictured). This edit eliminates Rizzuto and generally miniaturizes
the rest of the song pretty smoothly.

P.S. I vaguely recall someone else posting about this but don't find any
details here, so perhaps I'm imagining things.

YouTube (while it lasts?)
