Quick question for the class. I don't have the LP version
of the live version of "Free Bird", but do have the 45
version. Many of the CDs with the LP version have the
spoken intro edited off, or as part of the preceding
track. My question is at what point in the spoken intro
is "What song is it you wanna hear?" asked. Is it right
before the music kicks in (as on the 45 version), or is
there more of a spoken intro, or is there a different
music intro than on the 45 (which would be my guess)? Or
any combination of the above?

Thanks!

my live lp version from the 'gold & platinum' cd has the
the 'what song is it you want to hear' spoken at the 0:09
mark of the song.....then there is music, but not the song
until the 0:56 mark when the guitar dip starts....do you
need the vinyl 45, the lp version or the digital 45
version?....i have them all.....which is it you need?

Here's another live "Free Bird" question:

I don't have the vinyl One More From The Road LP, but do have the 12-inch Special Advance Preview From Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Live" Album One More From The Road (MCA 1946). "Free Bird" is the sole cut on side two and lists at (11:30), the same as the time listed on the commercial LP. Actual time is (13:49).

I also have two differently-labeled DJ 45s for the "live" "Free Bird"": MCA 40665 (same as the stock) and MCA 1948. The latter has a larger-sized title font and does not mention "produced by Tom Dowd", instead replacing that info with a large "(4:55) EDIT". Both of these are on the dark blue promo label with silver print, and they appear to be the same, sonically.

Whereas the 45s begin with a very quick crowd fade-in, then a spoken "yeah", then more crowd noise before the "what song is it..." question comes in at about :03, the LP preview promo begins with a more-gradual crowd fade-in, followed by the "what song...?" question coming in at :02. There's no "yeah" on this promo LP track at all. I don't have the live "FB" on CD, so my question is: does this description match the track on the MCA Special Products Classic Live Performances CD noted as the "LP version with :08 of the introduction edited out"?
