From another thread regarding "Steppin' Out" by Joe Jackson:

Yes, there was a promo 12" issued to AOR (& record pool disco DJ's) a little in advance of the 45.

SP-17201 was is number, and yes it featured the single edit on the A-side & the album version (albeit with the longer, cold intro) on the B-side.

I have it in my hands so it is a confirmed domestic promo.

Andy

That would make the Album Version (with un-mixed intro) a unique version only available on a promo 12".

When Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out For A Hero" was released worldwide in 1984 (the first four 'Footloose' singles were pretty much released at the same time), it came out without any mixes.

It barely made the Top 40 in the U.S. and bombed elsewhere (U.K. # 96). Over a year later (1985). the single was re-released outside North America and it was massive (U.K. # 2). The 1985 re-release sported new Jellybean mixes, which were never released nor promoted in the U.S.

There's a DJ 12" of "What A Fool Believes" by the Doobie
Brothers available nowhere else with a unique mix.

"What a fool..." was included in it's remixed form on 12
inch Dance: 70's Groove issued back in 2015.

Also, I believe (no pun intended) that the 12" Disco Mix was available commercially. If memory serves me correctly, my copy is a stock and not a promo. I think I have this one: What A Fool Believes.

Great mix!

Yes, I can confirm "What A Fool Believes" was available
commercially. I bought mine at the local shop.

I have a promo 12" of "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order that appears to have a unique edit labeled "Extended Edit." This has a listed and actual time of 4:58, and it's a straight edit of the longer 12" Extended Mix.

I'd be curious to hear the version you have - because I always wondered about this strange version that would sometimes be on the radio, and I never knew where it came from.

The radio version edits the spoken intro of the LP version down to only the lines in bold:

We got it together, didn't we?
We definitely got our thing together, don't we baby?
Isn't that nice?
I mean, when you really sit and think about it, isn't it really, really nice?
I can easily feel myself slipping more and more ways
Slip in world of my own
Nobody but you and me
We've got it together, baby

...and then matches the 45 version from when the beat kicks in until the end. This is the version that I've heard on WCBS-FM in New York City and many other radio stations, but does not seem to have ever been commercially released.

I made my own copy of it by editing the intro of the LP version from "Barry White's Greatest Hits" and then adding it onto the 45 version from "All-Time Greatest Hits".

The radio version you describe "is" the
45 version (it matches the 3:31 45 versions listed in
the online database).

Can the short radio edit not be created by using one source? I'm not clear - why did you make your short version from 2 sources?

Because those were the two sources I have on CD: the full LP version (on "Barry White's Greatest Hits", and the 1975 short remix/edit that lacks the spoken intro (on "All-Time Greatest Hits" and "Pure Disco").
