remove the "n" word on the chorus.)

Digging this oldie but goodie up regarding "Hand On The Pump." I
finally dug up my old cassette I recorded from the radio back in
1991. It is the alternate take on the clean version like Aaron
mentioned above! It has the "n" word in tact and they did a
"scratch/mute" over the word. I know it's the alternate take because
it uses the word "buster" instead of "sucker" on Sen Dog's (verse 2)
section. I wonder if this is the version on the promo CD single that
you have still sealed Aaron. If it is still sealed don't bust it open
maybe we can find an opened copy first. Or it could possibly have
been first released on a promo 12" since the tape I have from the
radio was a "weekend dance party" where they usually spun the
wax.

Most likely they played it from the Cypress Hill promo LP (CAS 4157). I'm fairly certain "Hand On The Pump" came out as a single sometime in early 1992. (Billboard shows a date of 5/2/1992 for its peak on the Hot Rap Singles chart.) Surely the promo LP was out by that time.

Aaron, I was able to listen to the greatest hits you mention at the
top of this thread. It is indeed the same alternate "clean" version I
recorded all those years ago off the radio. The DJ must have
censored the "n" and "a--" words for airplay.

It's fun to discover some of those old clean/radio versions! Years after this thread started, I came across that Cypress Hill promo LP, and it does have the "alternate" clean version of "Hand On The Pump" that leaves the "n" word in the chorus. Until the clean Greatest Hits CD, this version was exclusive to that promo LP. Pretty cool!

I wonder how the promo clean version from that LP wound up on
the greatest hits CD. You would think the radio version from the
commercial CD single would have been more accessible.

This might be the wrong thread but since we are discussion
"Hand on the Pump" on here I thought I would continue. I
finally picked up the promo CD single (CSK 74105) for HOTP
{the one you (Aaron have sealed}. It's the same version
on the commercial CD single but they left $--t in tact at
the 0:32 mark. Most likely an early mistake.

This may be a question for Aaron: Is the greatest hits
clean radio version of "How I Could Just Kill A Man" the
same as the "Radio / Clean Version" found on the promo CD
single (CSK 4486)?

Yes, same version of "How I Could Just Kill A Man."

That's interesting about the promo of "Hand On The Pump" being a slightly different version than what's on the commercial CD. Mine is still sealed, so I've never been able to check.
