My TM library contains the "Classic Radio Mix Edit" of "Change" by Lisa Stansfield. This leads me to believe at least some stations would have played this version, and the promo details might be worth mentioning in the database. Although I don't have the actual promo CD here are the tracks, as listed on Wikipedia:

1."Change" [Single Mix]
2."Change" [Classic Radio Mix Edit]
3."Change" [Ultimate Club Mix]

The commercial maxi CD has these three tracks, too, plus "It's Got To Be Real" as track 4. The run time on my TM disc is 3:55.

Aaron, neither I nor my fellow promo CD single collector buddy Tom (according to his current listed inventory, which he provided to me a while back) own a promo CD single for "Change", and he and I were both "all over it" in 1992. Both of us only own the commercial maxi CD you cite above. I will re-double my efforts to see if I can turn one up now, and will report back to you if I succeed.

FYI -

The version on Hot Hits Pop Vol. 9 is the same as the one on UK's Now That's What I Call Music 20, and it runs around 4:16 (with the outro silence).

There's a different mix running 3:57 (with the outro silence) on Spotlight On Hits Pop Vol. 4.

Don't know which of these matches up with which track on the promo CD, though.

Discogs also lists the promo CD as ASCD-2362. The printed run times are:

1. 4:18
2. 3:55
3. 7:54

Here's a nice scan of the inserts and disc:

I think what I've been looking for is the "Classic Radio Mix" edit. If I'm correct, it has the accapella intro (only the first half with no keyboards), and is basically adapted from the Freddie Knuclkes remix.

If anyone can help me find that version, it would be terrific.

Holy Crap! You Aaron are the "God" of rare radio edits. This is EXACTLY it. The last time I heard this was on a BMG CD Promo Compilation in 1992. You ever sometimes wonder after that long if you just "imagined" hearing a certain song version? Thanks so much.

Cheers!

This comp?

What's rare about the Frankie Edit?

The third North American single, "A Little More Love", was a strange one. It was only available on the international CD edition (outside of North America) of "Real Love". The North American edition of the album sported a re-arranged track-listing.

Coincidentally, I believe "All Woman" was the last time a white female singer went to No. 1 on the Black singles chart (renamed Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Singles by then, I think?). I believe that record still holds.

@Loveland:

Very similar, but it was a white label BMG compilation from Canada. I borrowed it from the station a recorded the track on Type II cassette, but it's packed away somewhere.

@Loveland:

It's rare enough that I can't find it ANYWHERE on YouTube. That's what I mean by rare.
