My good friend Ed informs me his commercial cassette single of Cher's "Save Up All Your Tears" has an actual run time of 3:59, which is the same length as on the U.S. pressing of Cher's Love Hurts CD. I was curious about the single run time because the song runs slightly shorter at 3:56 on my Love Hurts Canadian import CD (Geffen 24427).

It should also be pointed out that "Save Up All Your Tears" on the Cher If I Could Turn Back Time - Greatest Hits CD (Geffen 24509) plays at a slower speed than the single and album, which explains the longer 4:02 time.

Does anyone have the promo cd for this and can tell me the difference between all the versions? I know that sometimes a vocal is placed louder or a guitar lick is removed here or there. I've seen it for sale at ridiculous prices and I just wanted to know if the differences are stark enough to justify the cost. Thanks!

I believe they're several promo CDs with different mixes for radio formats.   Aaron can you help us with this one?

I have my promos pull and in front of me...

PRO-CD-4304
1. CHR Remix (listed 3:58; actual 3:55)
2. LP Version (listed 3:58; actual 3:56)

PRO-CD-4327
1. Hot AC Remix (listed 3:58; actual 3:47)
2. Soft AC Remix (listed 3:58; actual 3:47)

PRO-CD-4341
1. CHR Remix (listed 3:56; actual 3:55)
2. Hot AC Remix (listed 3:49; actual 3:47)
3. Soft AC Remix (listed 3:48; actual 3:47)
4. LP Version (listed 3:58; actual 3:56)

The AC remixes both fade in at the beginning. These mixes are noticeably different from the LP version. The CHR Remix and LP Version are virtually identical, except that the CHR Remix runs just the tiniest bit faster, which accounts for the 1-second difference in run time. Other than that, if there are any mix differences, they are so subtle, I can't pick them out. I think the level of the electric guitar might be slightly different throughout, but it's very hard to tell.
